You are in for a treat as far as the fishing if you have access to a boat. I haven't been there in years, however I know a few fellows that still fish the lake. For bass it's a great worm lake. Colors like black/grape, red shad, green pumpkin. Mid June should also be an excellent topwater and crankbait time for the lake. Take plenty of insect repellent as the ticks and mosquitos are very heavily populated around this lake. Good luck.
[where exactly is this lake at i have never heard of it
The people we are renting the place from seem pretty cool...dont think i'll be in a situation to buy anything during our week there, but thanks for the heads up. Looking forward to a secluded week on the lake (and a full stringer) thanks for your advice though
thanks a lot for your advice and reply.
Sounds like you are really looking forward to that trip.
The getaway is not a sure thing yet, but I am looking forward to getting away (whether it be on trailwood lake or not). If we decide to go, is there something we SHOULDN'T be looking forward to, Cl. Meyer??? I may be trying to convince myself that the things ON3 said wont apply to me, but the things he said may also end up being a deal-breaker.
It's rural Ky, I'd be surprised if there weren't any screwballs within a stone's through. We've all seen them everywhere, and especially the in "camps" around lakes. They do have lot of camp sites available, must be a couple hundred of them, I could see where it might get loaded with mixed nuts in the summer. Might be worth taking Willi3 up on his offer to go check the place out.

I've fished over there a couple of times and it's a nice little lake. We caught several nice bass. Most of the people we've met there have been nice regular people but this place is way out in the sticks. I would also suggest taking Willi3 offer up and check things out for your self first before hauling the family there for a week.
Wasn't jabbing at you or anything, I have never been there, so I know nothing about the lake. I'm actually looking forward to my first real "trip" of the year myself, so we are most definitely on the same page. As far as the lake goes, I would never let a pederast rule my destiny. In fact if I was even younger I might write a long diatribe detailing my personal feelings about this and that scenario. Personally, all this talk about catching good size bass is making me want to check it out, northeast Shelby county being well within my current range.
Speaking of that trip, me and my twin where discussing a meet in the middle deal sometime early next week depending on the weather and work. He lives is coming from Bromley Beach, west of Ludlow up north on the nipple and, I will be coming from Louisville. Any suggestions on a spot to meet?
Cl Meyer, I am not from the KY area...I reside in the metro detroit area, so I cant help you out with a good meeting place for you and your twin. I appreciate your response, and like your choice vocabulary (I had to look up two words) I also cannot make it down there to scope out the region without taking considerable time off of work and day to day responsibilities. That is why I am so reliant upon what people that are familiar with the area say about it. Again, thank you for your interest and response.
Maybe us and a few other folks from the board should invade on said weekend and set up something like a wagon train with our tents/campers. That should keep any undesirable elements away, ha ha ha ha ha! Seriously though, I will probably end up camping on the lake sometime this summer now. Have you looked into Lake Jericho? It's not to far from where we are talking about and they just made it a small state resort type of park. No cabins to rent that I know about, maybe someone else who has been there could fill in the blanks, just the essentials for a state spot, camp sites, little ramp, indoor plumbing, I know they have toilets, not sure about full bathhouse though. Might also check this one out myself this summer. If you have never been to Lake Cumberland or KY/Barkley Lakes I would go there next time. Great fishing, beautiful scenery, hard to beat, also a big fan of Red River Gorge area, Natural Bridge is crazy (I would at least google Natural Bridge, full facilities here at KY rates to boot). Just food for thought. Good luck.
