    Our "Momma" Cat died today

Cricket, aka Momma Cat, passed away this morning at 10:30 AM. She gave 20 years of happiness and joy to those of us that served her.

Dogs have owners and cats have staff. We were her staff. My adult boys, now 26 and 27,
were only youngsters when she came into our lives.

She wandered here from our neighbor about half a mile north of us when she was barely weaned. She was smaller than a tea cup and infested with fleas. We cleaned her up and nourished her and she remained with us for these past 20 years.

Although her name was officially "Cricket" we always called her Momma Cat. She had one litter and then she was fixed.

One funny story: She was very protective of her 'turf". Two years ago at our annual party, she ran after a hound dog around the post in our garage to defend her territory. If we only had a video camera operating, I'm sure we could have won a prize in America's Funniest Home Videos.

Sorry to hear that Tyme, I too have cats , 8 to be exact, all fixed, 6 inside, two out, and love them all. All ours were strays destined to the pound, but we could not let that happen. Losing pets is harder than people think, ours are like our children. Again sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss Thyme. Pets really become a part of the family. It's been almost three months since my dog died, and I still will catch myself calling for her. 20 years is a long life for a cat, and I am sure she had a good one with you.

Sorry to hear that, I know how you feel, Our Mama Cat, along with 3 others were poisoned back in the winter, and we had to watch them suffer and die, took one to the vet, $500.00 later, said there was nothing they could do, put him to sleep, the other 3 we gave valium to let them go in peace. They are great pets, and you get love them like kids, and it hurts to watch them suffer or die.

Re: Our "Momma" Cat died today

I'm sorry you lost your Momma Cat. I know how it feels; on Wednesday we had to have our 18-year-old "Lucky Boy" put down. He was so named because he was born in the woods behind my apartment in Delaware, and showed up on my back porch right after 3 days of thunder storms, "Lucky" to be alive. The day he died was just a bad day all the way around, total stress, both cars in the shop, on top of having Lucky put down. Then we get home around 6pm and there's a beautiful little female cat on our porch. We figure some little girl's probably crying because her kitty's gone, so we're canvassing the neighborhood to find her owners, but it just seems so weird that she showed up on that of all days...
