    Re: Cumberland Stripers

May, on the bluffs at the mouths of the creeks or main lake. Fish them has Bob suggests above. March, clay banks back in the creeks and stay off the bank. Subsurface stuff: bucktail, sliver, deep cranks. April is transition period. They'll be making the run out of the creeks to the main lake. They'll start out early April on the clay banks and be on the bluffs by May. You can certainly get into some good fish in April, just a little harder to target (not as predictable). At the beginning of April, same techiques as March. By the end of April, same techiques as May.

Sounds like you know your s... when it comes to night striper fishing! I've never attempted this before, but after reading your last post, you've peaked my interest! Do the stripers spread out during this time of year, or are they still schooled from winter? Are you fishing for them in the same creeks that you fished for them during the winter months? This sounds like a blast, and I would love to try it! Thanks for any info in advance.

    -Rich:
School or spreadout? Combo of the 2. Some locations will have fishing in small schools laying off in depper water, making cyclic runs to the bank. Other places you'll find loners working. I have most luck and most activity at the mouths and first couple bends in creeks, but do not rule out main lake points and walls. In fact some nights comming out of Jamestown at dark, walls on left just passed houseboat dock, I've hooked up 3-4 times before even getting to the point at end of no wake.

I usually start from Jamestown, right after dark. I hit a variety of spots. I'm looking to hear the shad up swirling/tinkling on the surface as a first indicator, then I listeen for "pops" on the surface to tell me if fish are feeding active there. Couple that with what you see on the fish finder to see how many fish you are marking. Be careful though, as shallow fish may not show to well on a down oriented transducer, one that looks sideways is a better indicator. I try to hit the following places, I keep working the list till I find a spot where I hook up.

    a. Greasy Creek. Come around end of J-town dock, try the walls right acroos from end of dock, head up into Greasy, second left right across from the little dock, that big bend and the walls all around there.
    b. Main lake. From Jamestown, coming out, walls on the right, from beginning clear down to the cut-thru/gap. Jamestown coming out, turn left, walls running clear up to Lilly. Walls on oposite side from mouth of Wolf, right side of lake, running up to Harmony Creek.
    c. Lilly, on entry at mouth, walls on left, and around the bend staying on the left walls.
    d. Wolfe, on entry stay to right, at first bend break, I fish the right side walls all the way up to the next major bend. Still in Wolf, cross over to point on the left. You are only one turn down from new Aleegator 1. Work the point good, then work the walls there on your left clear up to the next slew. Skip the slew, and still on left work, long pee gravel, clay bank leading towrad new Allegator 1.
    e. Governors cove.
    f. Beaver Creek, straight in, to first bend on your left, work the walls there, and on the way out from that point at the first bend, put walls on right, work the walls coming out of Beaver.

All that said, in the early mornings, watch the slews, small coves, and small bays in all these areas for surface feeding and jumps close to the banks.

Hope it helps. Not the only places by far, sure there are others where it works. Last hint. If moon up, work shaded banks.

    Andrew-
Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping to give it a try this spring. Ever since I caught my first striper this winter, I've been hooked on how to catch more. This sounds like it would be a good chance to hook-up with one again. Thanks.

Thanks again for the great info and tips. Very informative. I'm hoping to hit it this spring, and with all this info, I'm hoping to be successful. I need it after my last two winter trips we blanked! OUCH! Thanks again.
