Jerkbait/Rattle Trap on KY this Weekend

I have a tournament Saturday on KY Lake. Not able to get off work and practice. With the cold front that has come in today, do you think the jerkbait bite and possibly the rattle trap bite will be there this weekend? Or will I have to slow down with a shakey head or jig? I am hoping a jerkbait in clown and rattle trap in blue/chrome or red will produce me three fish. Tournament is a 3 fish limit. Any opinions would be great. Thanks

Sounds like you got it figured out, if they aren't chasing baits, slow down

Also i got to thinking about this post and early spring fishing. Why do u guys think the jerkbait and rattle traps are so productive in early spring. I've heard mixed emotions on this subject, just wanted your input too?

PS...didn't mean to change the subject?

My new report is up on the Ky Lake Report board. Last week when the big deep freeze hit for one day...we slowed it down and slammed them on brush piles.....next day jerkbait and crankbait bite started coming back....by second day the jerkbait and crankbaits were tearng them up again....expect the same this time most likely.

Most of the shad will be suspended this time of year hence the jerkbait and slow rolled medium running crankbaits. on deep points and banks...some shad will be shallow as will some early late prespawn bass...hence the trap.

It is all about bait fish as usual. On warmer days a number of crayfish will be coming out to forage...hence the black/red traps and crawfish colored crankbaits....but one thing is for sure...no bass is gonna be anywhere unless the shad led them there.

Hey Dave, when you said you slammed them in the bushes at what depth were you fishing? And what depth were you finding most of the fish with the cranks and rattles? thanks

Did not say anything about slamming them in the bushes..I said we were slamming them in brush piles...10-12ft of water off the creek channel banks. Traps in 2-4 ft of water.
