    Re: check this out

Lead is a "very real risk" to the environment? WHERE does lead come from if not said environment?

THAT however is "not the issue at hand" anyway, what IS the real issue is that WE (the people) own these National Parks and were not asked for ANY input whatsoever......

No one can convince anyone that copper (Barnes bullets) or tungsten is any "safer" than lead, for the "critters" anyway. How long before "they" say they're even worse (but ONLY after they've gotten rid of your lead)

Let's not forget this country was founded and fought for with soft lead balls and muskets, MORE lead was exchanged during the civil war than fisherman have lost since, without any reasonable doubt. Yet "amazing as it may seem" those same battle grounds have plenty of healthy game and fish on them....??

Just perhaps (as silly as some will find it) this is just another way to try to take something we all love and "justify" it by making it about something totally foolish......just maybe

You may "think" it's not foolish........well how can anyone enforce it? Check every single hunter and fisher going through? NOT going to happen too much manpower and folks would not continue to go there with a four hour (or more) wait, and for those who really believe that everyone who pours their own bullets , jigs or sinkers would just stop because of this are kidding themselves...IMHO

Remember guys, for now this a national park issue and it wouldnt effect much of the waters we fish BUT it could spiral. Now more than ever is when we sportsmen need to be contacting OUR representitives and let them no how you stand on issues like this; they work for us, DONT LET EM' FORGET IT!

Get used to it boys. In the Powersports industry we just got hammered on it last month. All youth oriented motorcycle and ATVs had to be pulled off the floors because of lead content. Some how a 12 yr old kid was going to take a motorcycle piston and use it as a pacifier so they were all banned as un sellable. Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki etc all had to pull the units off the floor and dealers could not sell them. CSPC enforced the rule and all Y6 and Y12 products were deemed un sellable and this includes all parts as well that have more than 600 PM of lead, European standards are 1000 PM which most companies comply to but not the 600 PM of lead content.
A few weeks later they lifted the Y12 models and still are sticking to the Y6 rule. They also changed the rule and gave you one year to get certified since they only had 14 labs that could certify and all 14 labs were back logged more than 8 months. Now you still have to comply but you have until February 2010 to get certified.
If Honda, Yamaha etc can’t change it B.A.S.S is not going to change it in the fishing world.

I talked to a buddy of mine about this. He works for the Dept. of Water. He is a little liberal on his views but an excellent outdoors men and probably one of the smartest guys around about environmental issues. He said that lead won't hurt to fish with. Once it gets down in the mud it is a non issue.

He knows what he is talking about he is one of the best around.

Thanks, Willie, for taking my quote and bashing it with your free-spirited propaganda. Glad to see I've made your day........

One more thing too while I'm on here. Did you know your fishing reels and lures contain lead components? Guess you'll have to give up fishing too, along with lead..........

In the first 1000 yards below the Greenup dam there is probably several tons of lead that have been lost there sense 1958 by myself and thousand of others who fish with jigs or sinkers. It would be interesting to check the lead in the water at the dam and 1000 yards below to see if this raised the lead content of the water. One strip mine with a minor seam of lead may put more lead in a stream than all the fishermen in the state plus arsenic and other heavy metals.
