Has anyone had any luck catching sauger below lock 10 near Winchester? I have gone out there 3 times this year without a bite. I tried a 3 inch white grub on a 1/2 oz jig head, and some spoons. Could it be that I'm not tipping with minnows? Are they close to ****, or a few hundred yards downstream? Is high or low water preferable? Any info appreciated. Sick of getting skunked there and wonder if I should give it up.
Well the sauger are always moving and sometime you just have to luck out to be there when they are. A good sign that the fishing is good is just looking to see if the locals are out. If I am fishing the kentucky River locks and there are no locals out I just move on to the next one. When I fish I try to cast close to the dam lock walls and slowly move out. In my opion using minnows is a great way to increase your catch numbers and size. Best of Luck to yea and let us know if/when you get into them.
