    Re: McAlpine Sauger are biting

I couldnt stand it. Called up mom and begged her to babysit so I could go after work...she did!

I had my waters but no jacket or rod and reel. I had a $50 BPS gift car though.

Got off work at 530 and headed straight there. Bought a rod and reel combo, a pack of 1/4oz jig head and my super secret saugar killers. Total came to $50.56 hehe.

Anyhow I didnt decide to fight the crowds at the horseshoe so I headed to the dam.

Within the first few minutes I brought in a saugar, small around 12" but I figured I needed plenty of fish for a fish fry. Caught three more, two where about 10" an released and one about 14"..on the stringer it went. I was all excited as I caught those in about 15 minutes. Sadly I couldnt catch any more.

I did manage about a dozen white/hybrid bass in the 8-15" range, kept the three biggest. I also caught about a dozen buffalo with the biggest going 5 or 6 pounds. Wore me and the cheap ML action and 6lb line out. Also the shad where EVERYWHERE. I snagged at least 15 monster shad about 10" on accident. At one point I had a big fish on. I could never get him turned and a guy down stream cast over my line. I dont think I lost it cause of him cause he free spooled but I did end up loosing the fish.

The real treat was a 5lb walleye caught just to the left of me right before I got there and a very NICE walleye at least 7 or 8lbs caught by the guy to my right at about 735!

All in all in was great to finally catch some fish. I think if I had my normal rod I use for saugar I would have landed more, just couldnt stick em with the cheapo.

well JD7.62 i appologize for crossing your line and i may have been the cause of your lost fish. i wasnt paying attention. on the good note i was the lucky one that hooked the walleye he is talking about. 7.1 pounds on the dot 24 1/4 long and the first true walleye i have ever caught anywhere. when i first weighed the fish it said 5.1 and i knew it wasnt right. went next door and got another set from my neighboor and 7.1 on the dot. this thing was fat and not an egg in her stomach ( thats th best part i would have felt bad knowing she was full of eggs). i will be back tomorrow to try again and i may even stop by walmart angrab a new set of scales.

They do well for me. I dont cast and reel in. I cast out, let it sink to the bottom and let the current take it.
