    Is it worth it?

Spring break is this week and they are calling for snow...is it worth it to go fishing? I am planning on going Saturday, which is suppose to be a nice day...but with the weather we just had what are your thoughts. I think I am going to Cumberland.

Then I have plans to go out again Monday/Tuesday...weather is supposed to be in low 40's with rain/snow...would it be worth a trip back to Cumberland...or should I build a fire and stay home?

The target fish will be bass and crappie. If I can find some crappie that will be main target.

Can anyone give any information?? This is a tight lipped group, especially about Lake Cumberland. I am not a tournament fisherman, I would actually prefer more information about crappie fishing than bass. Or at least give me a resource that I can read about current conditions and fishing at the lake...not your honeyhole!

I don't fish Cumberland all that much, much I have caught some good smallmouth with the weather spitting snow. Try fishing points this time of the year -- hit em from all angles and stay near Wolf Creek. Sorry, but that's all I have. Good luck to you and hopefully someone else will post more info for you...

In my opinion it's always worth it to go. It's spring break... I had rather go fishing in the cold than stay at home. I have not heard anything about Cumberland, Green has been on fire. I'd say go. At least a couple of days.

If it were me and picking a lake, I would go to Barkley or KY Lake. Just remember the bass will pull off the banks and be a little deeper. Big females should be staging on channel banks and adjacent points. Also at the mouths of creeks around where the channel enters. Also, with these fronts moving through, watch the wind forecast.

Just remember the cliche, " A bad day of fishing is always better than a good day at work."

Sorry, I can't help you on Cumberland. I'll be at Lake Barkley for ten days starting with the snow and the wind.

I can't help you on Cumberland in that I have never fished it in the spring but the fish are moving and thinking spawn and even with the bad weather you can catch fish. You just may have to back out some and fish a little deeper than we all prefer when we can find them hungry and shallow. I was faced with much the same this week. Went to Barkley/KY Sunday through Wednesday on the back side of that big front last week end and had another front Tuesday. Fishing Sunday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon was post-frontal, windy, and pretty cold. We caught fish both days although it was tough conditions and the fishing was better Monday/Wednesday on the calmer, warmer days.

There have been some good catches on days with snow. Those low pressure systems can be pretty good! I have had accumulating snow in the boat and really puttin' a hurtin' on the bass.

Thanks for those of you who have been responding. I was beginning to lose hope on this site.

I am thinking of going to Cumberland tomorrow...I heard there is a tournament...I am not doing that. I really would like to get into some crappie.

Does anyone know what the water looks like at Lake Cumberland...I have heard they have been pulling it...I have seen it has been pulled 8.0" in the last 24hours. Does anyone have suggestions of how to find crappie/bass when the water is dropping?

Went last weekend fished the river the whole time we were down there. I caught 3 16" rainbows trolling some sauger at the dam my partners trolled the same water and boat a 5 gallon bucket of whites. Oh he also got 20+" rainbow that we keep. Kentucky afield said crappie on the main lake but i have no knowledge of this.
