Re: What's the cure for a "following" bass

I agree with Wormin, stop and go on the retrieve. Sometimes they want you to speed it up, but I have found that if you see a fish following your bait to the boat, stop and let it drop - sometimes they'll hit it this way. Like Wormin said before, on your next cast try cranking the bait and stopping it. Repeat this several times before your lure gets back to the boat.

Re: What's the cure for a "following" bass

We just had this happen Saturday while throwing crankbaits. All I did was throw it right back at the same ledge and pulled the old stop and go and he hit it about the same spot he went down the first time. Maybe it was blind luck?

If your throwing a crankbait in clear water, go with a natural color. Throw it out and burn it back to the boat giving it a few hard jerks on its way back to make the bait change directions.

The fish's natural instinct kicks in, the bass has no choice but to wack your bait as it fly's by. I just started doing the last year with a 6:4.1 reel.

    Works Great!

Follow up with a bright colored trick worm or senko. Fall & twitch.

A 12 ga. in number 7 1/2 or 8 shot works, but it disturbs thing quite a bit LOL! I have always tried to throw something a little bit different and a little bit slower. More often than not, If I am throwing a spinnerbait, I will usually follow up with a fluke. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I know this is going to sound funny but it does work alot of the time. Take your rod tip and make a figure 8 and this will cause the crankbait or swimbait to turn and swim toward the bass causing the bass to hit the lure due to a reaction strike. If you catch the fish GREAT!! put your bass in the livewell and tie on a different color and speedup your retrieve . If you don't catch the bass tie on a different color, speedup your retrieve and hope you have better luck.

I just usually give up........BREAK my crap over my knee........SLAM the throttle down, and go home to drink some bud light........

Just some things you cannot MAKE them thar fish do, and that is eat.

AND then I get to hear from all my buddies, how they kicked the CRAP out of the fish........

Or I get to watch my buddy fish oh say 50 yards from me, and WHACK the CRAP out of a few 4 pounders, and lose a 10 pounder..........

    BUT hey........that's fishin.

    Later,
