    How to catch carp?

Ok usually on Derby weekend we get out of town and go to Barren. Usually when we stop bass fishing we will start bow fishing for carp because they are always up on the bank spawning that time of year. My question to you all is how do we go about catching some of these with our spinning rods instead of shooting them all.I have snagged them on accident with a rooster tail before and have caught them on crappie jigs also but is there an easier or better way. The snagging only happened once and it was blind not on purpose!

Try corn as bait, whole kernel, use just enough weight to keep it down and just have fun, also when they are rolling a lot they are spawning so they do not take the bait as much as they have other things on there mind. Use to sit down at the bridge over Beaver and just catch the fire out of them they are fun on light tackle.

Scratches head....cross between a carp and a deer?

If you fly-fish, try a brown, or olive wooly bugger, and cast to them. But be sneaky!

Wheaties and rasberry or strawberry pop. I have caught a ton of carp in the past from small creeks in Pike Co. Very fun on light tackle!!

    Re: How to catch carp?

~What about grass carp? Do they eat the same as "other carp"? I have snagged some monster grass carp at a small lake I fish but it would be a blast to catch one on an ultra-lite with 4 4ound test.

    Re: How to catch carp?

We would always catch them on the river using wheatie balls w/ vanilla mixed in, fishsed on a treble hook. Any kind of dough ball w/ something sweet mixed in! And like KneeGrow said, hang on cause its a blast. Also, they will pretty much hook themselves after biting for awhile. Just be patient and wait for them to run w/ it!
