    Water pump repair/ impeller replacement

I have a 1991 Merc 200 hp. The impeller needs to be replaced so my mechanic has the boat/motor. When he completes repairs he tells me to pay whatever i feel fair.
I feel i have been generous in the past but really would like some reccomendations. He is a certified mechanic that moonlights at home on his own. I really like the work and the ease of doing business with him and want to pay him a good fee. I do not particularily want to grossly overpay.

    Any ideas??

I had mine done to my outboard this year along with some other things. If I'm not mistaken it was a little less than $100 for the impellar change and parts. If I had the time I would have done it myself though because it doesn't seem like it would be that hard.

it's not. i just did mine and i'm mechanically illiterate. of course once back in and i took it out, the boat started up and started going in reverse. took it home, fixed the problem and was back out the next day.

i'd say around 100 bucks is probably just right, but that's just me.

I did the same thing the first time I put one in.

$100 seems reasonable to me. He took the boat on Monday and said I could pick up on Thurs, Which is one of the reasons I use him as I travel during the week

Thanks for the input as I would have probably overpaid!

I just replaced mine on a 150 2001 merc EFI. It took me around 30 min. It is not that hard and the kit is around 15-30 bucks. I would say that 100 is fair.

$100 is fair, However if this guy is some one you trust, did a good job, why not kick him some extra? (say $20 -30) Reason being he'll remember and good chance you can bend his ear once and a while and just may get you to the front of the line next time you have a problem.

I used to do this for a living. Kick him the extra $........it will be worth it in the long run provided that he performs acceptable work.

I will kick in an extra $25 as he does always answer his phone even on Sundays and offers "free advice" on my motors!

You guys gave me just what I needed

    Thanks

Re: Water pump repair/ impeller replacement

I need the same for my boat, but don't want to pay an un-holy per hour rate. I even have the part (impeller) but scared to do it myself.

Anyone around Lexington who can do this for a fair price?

PS: I was once told you should change out the impeller once every 1-2 years. I have a 1993 Evinrude 150 and I've yet to do it.

    Thanks
