Questions, comments, thoughts, ideas? Please Read

I was thinking, everyone here is on this board for one thing, fishing, learning, and getting ideas. My idea is this, and I want everyones opinions, thoughts, and ideas. Start a sportsman club, get about 20-25 guys or gals together, start a club, have monthly dues, like $25.00 a month, have officers, then try and get together about once every 2 or 3 months, we could rent a hall somewhere convienent for everyone, and talk about fishing, share ideas, maybe get a guest speaker, someone like Woody, to come in and show everyone techniques on the float and fly, and maybe someone on jigs, and so on. Once a year, you take the funds you have collected on dues, and rent a cabin, or a couple of cabins for a week, or a long weekend. You should have the money to rent the cabins, and pay for the food, and have a little tournament with the money you have left for payout, trophies. I think this would be a great way to get to meet everyone, start new friendships, and learn something, because everyone could share their knowledge. I dont know if this would work or not, but I would love to give it a try if enough people were interested. So please let me know what you think, and give me some suggestions. We could call it the FISHIN.COM Sportsman Club.

I think your idea is great, but my question is where would you have your meetings at? In order for all members to benefit from your club, the location would have to be one central location to justify travel expenses (mileage, time, accessibility, fuel, etc.) among its members.

I like to join fishing clubs and organizations for the pure benefit of the wealth of knowledge that can be distributed among the members. Meeting and talking to fellow fishermen are a great way to expand your knowledge. Seminars are a great idea as well.

Price for memberships would have to justified as well to pay for rental locations, food, drinks, etc. With the economy this day and age, people aren't going to dump alot of money into something that doesn't help and benefit them to the fullest extent.

Overall, I think the idea of your "grass roots" organization is a great one. I'm interested to see what exactly you come up with.

Yeah I agree. This is a bad time to think about another monthly bill. I am a member of a local sportsmans club that has alot of members, land, shooting ranges, camping, fishing lake, casting pond, many divisions that rum their own agenda, club house with kitchen and limited hunting. We don't pay that much so I can see that being a problem.

The idea sounds good but several simple meet and greets have been tried in the past on here with little to no participation...so based upon that I see a problem.

Seems like several guys on here do get together anyway without an official club and it works because they live close enough or have a common body of water they fish along the way. Bottom line is it's convienent and doesn't cost anything

Don't mean to rain on your parade just telling it like I see it, heck I could be wrong.
