Thanks for the reports. Going down Friday night to try.
Went Thursday night and fished mid lake. Threw Slivers, Bombers, Gizz4, Redfin, and Bass n Shad. All we caught was one short stripe. Shad never did come up. Heard very little surface activity. Talked to one other boat about 4 am who had only caught 2 short stripes.
I went down Thursday night and fished to Saturday morning. I got on the lake late Thursday, around midnight, and it was very quit. I tried a couple different spots and there was no shad to be found.
Friday night everyone and their brother seemed to be out fishing. It was so bad there was almost no place to get in and fish without making someone mad. I marked stripers moving into the mouth of the creek about 8:30pm and shad started popping about the same. The shad were up but sparse. The stripers were not busting the surface at all. I started out with top water and had them smacking at it like crazy but they weren't interested enough to grab it. I switched to a sliver and caught fish.
I caught three, one was short. They came at 8:30pm trolling shiners on planer boards, 10:30pm on a sliver, 4:30am on a sliver.
The shad were up from 8:30pm to about 11pm, after that they were very sparse but continued all night.
I fished sat. nt. the shad were not doing much, had 1 small strip.. I was able to boat 8 eyes, had 2 other that came off at the boat... Jmo I had rather eat eyes, than strips.. But my god them strips sure will fight....
To all,
Great set of notes guys. I'll be going soon, and promise to return the favor. Appreciate the detailed info, and will do the same.
Hey......has anyone seen my boat keys? Last I saw them the wife said she was going to shine them up for me. That was 3 days ago.
ok,rookie nite striper fisher here.how bout the full moon? how do they react to a brite moon? should fish dark banks on full moon ,or what? thanks guys ,hope to bethere just after the full moon coming, any bait choice i should pick up on?thanks again, rbass
I hate a full moon, esp in May. Try to find dark banks. Lures are pretty much the same.
Agree with fishincreek. Don't like bright moon. Dark banks for sure on full moon. Have to admit, as much as I don't like the moon, my best striper was on the full moon, post cold front, bluebird skys, bright bank, winter. One of the best nights I've had on the lake. If I had checked the weather before I planned the trip, I probably would have stayed home. Stripers are masters of pychological warfare. As soon as you think you have them figured out, they change completely. Probably a big reason that the vast majority of fisherman who have chased stripers for more than a few years are more than just a tad insane

I'll vouch for the tad insane part, lol.......Agree with fishincreek. Don't like bright moon. Dark banks for sure on full moon. We fished Tues/Wed. nights. Wed night went early and not much happening in the creeks.
We ended up w/ 2 about 24" on Long A's. Dad caught a 24" walleye on a Gizz 4 early AM.
Wed went out late...perfect weather...no shad, no fish busting. We did catch a 23 & 3/4" stripe (seems to be an abundance of this size now) and had some other hits. Very slow.
heres alittle trick u can try,,,,,dark moon, black back lure......brite moon, blue back lure......alittle something i heard see how things go....
