Well, yeah, now that you mention it, I guess that wasn't my most well-thought-out post ever. But I still don't see why it's such a big deal. As the lady from the university said, "The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they've done for other policy speeches." So if he'd been speaking at, say, Delaware State University, a totally secular, state-run college, then they would have wanted their signage covered too. Now, if what you're saying is that they should have made an exception because what was covered were religious symbols, then I guess it boils down to an argument about the separation of church and state, and I don't want to take this thread even further off-topic by re-opening that can of worms. Besides, I think we all know each others' views on that.
On the original topic, the flyover, I just read something that, if true, makes the story even more outrageous. According to the article below, high-ranking officials at the FAA knew about the flyover ahead of time, knew that it would likely cause widespread panic, yet still gave strict orders that it be kept secret. All in the name of updating some file photos. Stupidity beyond words:
