I have watched MMA for years now and during that time I have seen some great boxing. Granted not as good as some of the great boxers but good none the less. I can understand and respect your attraction to boxing since you boxed. Competing in either sport would leave me in hospital! Hats off to ya man!!
DJD, please don't misunderstand my love of boxing as a disrespect for mma, because that is not what I am trying to say. I respect those guys, it is just difficult for me to get into.

In July of 2007 when I moved into my house, I had free tickets to MMA in Shepherdsville. My wife needed my truck so I actually drove a 26 foot UHaul to the fights (about a mile from my house). As I was leaving I cut a corner to sharp and hit a car doing some pretty good damage. I went and found the police and they located the owner of the car....he was an mma fighter from Lexington who had fought on the card earlier. Yea me LOL!

Manny was dang impressive last night. That was as dominating a performance as you could have asked for. I also liked it because it put Floyd Mayweather Sr. in his place and Freddy Roach is still one of the best trainers in the business.

Now on to next year's superfight after Floyd Jr. takes care of business in November, we have to see Manny and him fight.

Uh forget what I said earlier Manny does make it look easy.

Aside - I watched the famous Tyson/Buster Douglas fight on ESPN2 last night. When Tyson knocked him down at the end of the 8th round, was Douglas really up by the 10 count? I wasn't on my "tivo" TV so I couldn't rewind. It looks like Tyson got up at about the same point in the count when he got knocked down in the 10th - though he was clearly out of it. If the ref had concluded the 10 count on Buster would Tyson be the shell of his old self that he is today?

The official rule is that when a knockdown occurs, the ringside time keeper starts the count then the referee picks up the count from him. It is not always an actual ten seconds, it is when the referees count reaches ten.

As for the last part of your question, Mike was on a down hill slide before the Douglas fight, which began when he fired Kevin Rooney. Rooney was Tyson's trainer through the latter part of his amateur career and most of his pro career. He kept Mike in line for the most part and he taqught the head movement and combination punching that made Mike so lethal. Once Rooney was gone, Tyson's fighting style was not the same and he abandoned the head movement and combination punching and began walking straight in looking for a knockout punch.

Speaking of the Tyson/Douglas fight...I( was at the funeral home earlier today to see Greg Page. Greg was in Tokyo working as a sparring partner for Mike for the Douglas fight and he dropped Tyson in training before the fight and it was big news on the HBO telecast that night. On another note, Louisville's James Pritchard was also in Tokyo as a sparring partner for Buster Douglas.

Yeah I took note when they mentioned that Page had put him down then they said he might be a future opponent down the road.

As far as the count goes it seemed like Buster was getting up and was still on his way up after 9 but then the ref never said 10. It's like he could have said 10, declared the fight over, and no one would have disputed. But that was just me watching it in real time from the comfort of the bed. That's the first time I had ever watched that fight in its entirety.
