Current weather outlook is partial to a "Sloppy" Track and that would put me on the Freisan Fire pick with you. I am hoping the "General" does well, and is paying good odds, but none of the "talking heads" seem to even be talking about him and say there are only 3 or 4 horses who have a chance (now that some of the good horses have had to pull out, and others have terrible draws...ie post 1). I would probably pick two or three favorites and wheel the tri, or super, with the remaining horses I "thought" actually could finish high with everything considered to at least make sure it paid off when I cashed it. Don't forget that they now have the 10 cent bets that can be really fun and not "break the bank" to play (pay 1/10th of the regular payout). These allow us novices, and people without a larger amount of money, to play with something to gain and not really lose our butts. Good luck and I like you top picks, but it is the 2, 3 and 4th place horses that help the payout, so good luck with those as well.

Rob, I am considering using Papa Clem and General Quarters in some exotics. What do you think?
Sarah Jessica Parker for me..........
CRA97, sorry to tell you but the noitice I got from Churchill said there wouldn't be any .10 cent bets on Oaks or Derby Days.
In years past when I wasn't sure which horses to bet I tried to make up a saying or what I call a Jingle using the names of the horses. I use six horses and do a partwheel or a box. Anyhow, you heard iit here first, the first three and many the first four horses are in this Jingle:
The MUSKET MAN sounded GENERAL QUARTERS, as he yelled HOLD ME BACK, I WANT REVENGE on the FRIESAN FIRE that melted my CHOCOLATE CANDY.
Depending how how the track is running tomorrow, I may change that to read: ". . .. . I WANT REVENGE for the FREISAN FIRE that burned up DUNKIRK.
Good luck to us all,
Grumpy
I try not to comment on General Quarters because I REALLY want him to win for "storyline" reasons. The owners being from megar means and having only one horse after years of service to the children of Louisville just tugs at my heart.
My two cents on those in "exotics" though, not a bad way to go. I also like the horses in the "jingles" below. It sounds like he knows the pony's from his choices, and I am not refering to the OBVIOUS top 4, but the others. There are SO MANY good horses in this race, and honestly if there had not been recent injuries I thnk this would have been the deepest field in a LONG time, that you could make a argument for almost every horse in the field except maybe 5 or 6.
Good luck to you and hope you cash some of the exotics! I will go out on a limb here and say I do not think we are going to have a triple crown winner this year. I don't think ANY of these horse can beat the field in 3 straight, its just to deep and strong. Enjoy!
General Quarters has been my pick for about the last two months or so.......Don't know why, but I always seem to pick a horse with something Military related to it's name....![]()
I guess you all know I Want Revenge is out.. news conference at 9:15 to announce why. I work mutuels every year for Oaks and Derby, and would be there right now, but I walked in the front door last night after the Oaks, slipped and opened up my scalp to the tune of 40 stitches and a mild concussion. So I get watch the Derby on tv this year, and actually see the raceThe only .10 cent bet I know of is the Superfecta, although they may offer that new Super Hi-5 thing that way (I have yet to sell one of those, not a real popular bet). Anyway, you can bet the .10 cent Super today, but only at the self-serve machines, at least that's what my supervisor there told me yesterday.
A kind of interesting new bet they have is the "Matrix." You bet on 3 horses, the bet costs $9, and what you get is a win bet on all 3, and an exacta and trifecta box on the 3 of them. You're getting .60 cent bets. So if you were to ask for a "$1 Matrix" it would cost $15.
My eye keeps coming back to Flying Private. To me, a D. Wayne Lukas horse going off at over 30-1 in the Derby is a gift.
Yeah Tim but it's such a staple at this time of year, a go-to joke if you will.........
Freisan Fire is the only horse that has proven to have run a decent race in the slop. I feel this horse will win cause it's gonna be plenty wet and the mud will be a flying.
====================
Somebody tell me about a certain horse that was bought for $9,500; barely qualified for the derby, driven 1,700 miles by a man with a foot broken in 12 places, 21-hours ride, and barely enough money to pay the entry fee at Churchill Downs. He was hardly mentioned; after all the odds of winning were 50-1. Whatshisname? Mine That Bird.
The "Bookies" are going to be knocking on lots of doors. lol
