I have a Lowrance question.

I am considering purchasing a Lowrance 520c from my neighbor. He is asking $350 for it with no card. It came new on his new Skeeter about a year ago & he only had it on about a dozen times. Is this a good deal for me? When I put this on my religious tracker, it will be worth more than the boat. LOL. I have no experience with a lowrance & was wondering if any of you lowrance experts would give me some input on this.

I have been watching these for a while on bbc as I was wanting one for my boat. They are great units. From what I have seen $300-$400 is about the going rate for a used one. If I had one to buy at 350 that I knew was in good shape and been taken care of I would probably buy it.

i've got two units and have had no problems. sounds like a good deal, but i'd recommend updating it to the latest software.

I heard that the latest software is the only way to go. I am going to get one, but first I have to get this bad boy on my boat. I think I will have to rewire everything for it though, I have a Hummingbird there now. Oh yeah, another question, can I use the onboard transducer in an aluminum boat? Or will I need a skimmer?

Should be a piece of cake. I just put a new Garmin on mine and it took 5 minutes to swap everything. Here is what I did: Found where the the unit wire spliced together with the power wire. Cut that connection. Pulled off the old unit. Put on the new unit and tied it into where the old unit was. Powered up just fine. Then tied a string to the transducer cable. Tied it off on the steering wheel. Went to the bilge area and pulled the trandsucer cable out bringing with it the string. Put the new transducer cable in the bilge, tied the string to it, went to the steering wheel and pulled the sting, hooked the transducer to the unit and it was ready to go. Just had to mount the transducer.

I think you'll be very well pleased, I know I really like my 520C

If you're still running Windows XP you should go to the Lowrance site and download the 520C Emulator you can "learn to use it" right on your PC ( I run Vista and it doesn't work on it)
