Re: Anyone fish Senkos or stick baits?

I fish a senko or deadstick a trick worm on spinning tackle, 10lb line. The key is patience, unlike txs rig your not feeling the bottom, throw it into grass/grass edge and let it set then twitch it slow. Thats it pretty simple, i also wacky rig alot too with a 1/0 wide gap finnese.

When the fish are active I like to throw senko's like a soft plastic jerk bait. I will work it erratically a few feet and it will come up towards the surface then I will stop and let it sink to the bottom and let it sit there several seconds. The fish will almost always hit it on the way down.

Make sure you use the right hooks, I see people using too small of hooks with Senkos.

I mostly fish them wacky rigged. At Barren about 3 weeks ago thats all I could get them to bite. I've been to a pond here in Lexington recently too and thats all I could get them to bite too.

Usually - I throw it out let it sink. Let it sit on the bottom for a couple of seconds - Stroke it up 3-4 feet, and let it sink again - retrieve and repeat.

If they are active I will fish them like JD.

There really is no wrong way to fish one, except too fast.

If I T-rigg them I use a 3/0 EWG offset worm hook. If I wacky rig them I use a 1/0 EWG split shot/finesse hook. I double my hook ups with a smaller hook when wacky rigged - you don't even have to set the hook, more of a steady rod sweep. You will save quite a bit of money with the O-rings. If you don't use these wacky rigging, you will usually go through one senko per fish (it will rip), but with these you can catch 4, 5 or more per bait. Don't be afraid to use some dip dye on the ends either.
