My wife was recently in an accident and her car was totaled. The other driver was found at fault. We have full overage insurance and nobody was injured. The other driver did not have insurance or a valid driver's license. The other driver went to court and pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. He was ordered to pay about $200 court costs and restitution to KAPS. The restitution was my $500 deductible and he has 6 months to pay interest free. Now, I owe $18000.00 on the vehicle ( 8 months old) and the insurance company will only pay $11,000,00 because I don't have GAP insurance, I am stuck with the $7000 debt. I have had two accidents since 1977 and both times it was with an uninsured motorist. I believe that I spent enough money on car insurance that I could have paid for both accidents 10 times over. I think as long as I have $1000.00 in the bank to cover court costs and the other person's deductible then I should be good to go and bank all the money from not paying car insurance. It could be another retirement fund. What are your thoughts on this?

Ouch. Man, what a rip! The uninsured guy's troubles are far from over though. Your insurance company will no doubt sue him for their money, so he'll pay one way or the other. You could also prolly find a shyster who'll go after him for your loss on a contingency fee basis. The ambulance chaser would take a large portion, but you'd get some of your money back.My wife was recently in an accident and her car was totaled. The other driver was found at fault. Gotta keep that insurance brother, just make sure it's agreed value. Don't know anything about gap insurance, I haven't bought a new vehicle in 20 years, and have no intention to ever again. Buy used vehicles/boats, and let the showroom buyer or leasor take the depreciation.
Yep. It's true that insurance companies are a joke.
But...it also points out why you should buy a used car where you don't take that kind of hit on depreciation.
Please don't take this the wrong way anybody that has tried too work for a living and had bad luck such as losing there job or bad health.
Now that the disclaimer is out. And I really mean the above.
This whole country is set up for a bunch of losers.
#1 any kind of bad treatment to kids, such as the idiot that threw the 3 month old out of the window. I say "kill them" flat out, show it on tv maybe that will help. Casey Anthony kill er. You abuse a child you die no exceptions
#2 losers that have kids just for the govment money. you get one chance anyone can have a kid whether it's accidental or on purpose. But if you don't have a job. after the first one you get fixed. tired of my tax money paying for losers
#3 Healthcare costs got ya down, could it be that 90% of the people that go to Emergency Rooms don't need to be there. Crazy people coming in to get there drugs. they have the whole system backlogged too were sick people will die d/t no rooms in the ED
that's just the start
Call the insurance commissioner. Or better yet call the insurance company and tell them that you are going to call the insurance commissioner. Who ever that guy is he puts the fear of *&^% in an insurance company. It has worke for me.

Did you know that most doctors are charging for extended visits when patients go for a regularly scheduled checkup? I've been noticing it for the past 6 months. I get lab work done every 3 months and see the doctor for the results. He checks my blood pressure, listens to my chest, looks at my lab results and hands me a bill for $130. I'm in his office about 5 minutes total time. We're having to pay more either to make up for fewer patients or those who are unable to pay. My doctor doesn't see patients who don't have insurance so I know I'm paying more because he is seeing fewer patients. Gotta keep him in that half-million dollar house and driving that white Mercedes.
I'm one of those who went to the ER and didn't need to be there. I wasn't going to get drugs, but going to get rid of some. lol I accidentally took an extra dose of medication at night; had taken the same kind 12 hours before. Was only supposed to take it in the morning but was talking on the phone and took the wrong bp med. I called "Ask a Nurse" and she scared the crap out of me telling me I could die and told me to rush to the ER. I did and told the ER doctor what medication I had taken and that their nurse had told me I was in danger. He laughed and said an extra dose of that medication will not affect you at all because it's been 12 hours since you had the first dose. I did not laugh when they handed me a bill for $600 because I followed the advice of THEIR nurse. She's no longer giving medical advice.....thanks to that doctor and a nasty letter of complaint from me.

Tom that really stinks brother. I agree with a prior post this country, it's laws, it's morals and values are set up to cater to the deadbeat no count useless bums of the world. People like you and me pay the bills, we can't change it because this is exactly what the lawmakers of this country want especially this give it away for free bunch we have in there now. It's enough for a good hard working fella to just throw his arms in the air and say screw it I think I'll be like the rest of these bums. I can't do it though, I wasn't raised that way, my Dad hated deadbeats and that was instilled in me from birth.
Last time I went to an ER.......I was FREAKIN DYING........that is when you visit them, period.........Please don't take this the wrong way anybody that has tried too work for a living and had bad luck such as losing there job or bad health.

You go for a COLD........YOU PAY.
You go for the flu.....even SWINE FLU........YOU PAY.
You go for a sore back.......YOU PAY.
You go because you have no doctor.......YOU PAY.
You go because your kid has a runny nose.....YOU PAY.
Get the idea.
A typical ER visit is 800 bucks................An ER visit that turns into an admission 3000 BUCKS.........
A regular admission.......900 bucks.........
Goto a doctor.......THEN on their advice, go to the hospital........BUT NOT THE ER.........
Got IT.
Later,
Geo
You have too pay so much on ED or hosp. visits, because you are paying for everybody else. I work in the ED. We have some people that actually come in 3-4 a week regulary. 60 visits in 3 years. knock on wood but who gets sick that many times. I work for the hospital, If I go to ER and am not admitted I have a $150.00 co-pay.
ah no sense in griping, nothings gonna change
ding ding ding trophyhunter is the winner.
We have our "regulars" in the ER too..........
