I certainly hope so, because given all the hype, and the predictions, if he doesn't get that team into the Final Four his first year, and a national championship within two, he's going to have people calling for his head.
Don't count me in on the Coach Cal lovefest.
He's basically running kids off that signed to play at Uk to make room for the kids he wants and there's more to come with Patterson returning, who knows what Meeks is doing and maybe adding Wall so thats at least two more players he has to dump. I read a lot of UK message board stuff and when I see dissusicons about who UK should send packing to make room for whoever I get POed. I really, really don't like it. You can say they left because they didn't want to play for him, wouldn't have played anyway or whatever but I'm not buying it.
Most UK fans despised Cal when he was at Memphis and talked about how shaddy he was, how he has never won anything so why all the hype.......... but now he's at UK and all is forgiven. It was a complete 360 with the "he doesn't have to do that kind of stuff now that he's at UK, he's a proven winner.........." and I'm saying this based on personal conversations I had with people while he was at Memphis and after UK hired him.
One thing is for sure and that is he will win at UK but at what co$t.
This is a really a tough comment for me to swallow, about the kids being "sent packing". If you look at MOST major college coaching changes (I am talking about ELITE Programs only now), they often go through the same type of "pains" with there scholarships. I am actually happy to see a few of our guys, who I thought were dead weight anyway, go with the change. I DO wish there was a policy in effect for someone like Porter to get a continuation of his degree monies so they can get the degree we, as a university, promised them. I HATE that some of these kids NEED the scholarships to be able to afford college and they will be taken from them. I don't mind at all that the basketball aspect is being taken from them since we never promised them a shot at the NBA, but they CAN leave and follow that dream. I do TOTALLY disagree with taking someones education away from them, no doubt that that infuriates me to no end, but not basketball.
I AM interested to see which THREE (Meeks, Patterson, Wall) we take them from though. It is going to be odd to see a 4 Star recruit (Liggins rating last year, I believe) have to leave because he is "not good enough", or a good fit whichever you want to say, for this team. It will also be interesting to see how "Coach" gets all these top notch players to gel during the season. I like him, but he is NOT coming from DukeGO CATS!!!!!

I really haven't seen this many kids sent packing from a team (or what ever you want to call it) in all my years of following college basketball and if you can point me in the direction of the info I will gladly read it. Also most kids sign knowing that they aren't going to make it into the NBA and only use the scholly for the education in the first place. This is a really a tough comment for me to swallow, about the kids being "sent packing". I don't like calling a kid who was pursued by a school, signed a scolarship to play basketball there and gave it his all on and off the court "dead weight". Sure he might not be one of the best players on the team but he made a commitment to the university and they turned their back on him. You picked your favorite out in Porter but what makes him better than the rest other than the fact you like him?
Know what happens after you've been told your not going to get pt, don't fit into the new system....... and you leave to play elsewhere? You have to sit out a year which is very unfair.
I guess it's all business.
