old Bubby I'll like to also hear what was going on down there this weekend I'll planning on going Tomorrow or Tuesday. I was down there before the big rains and the water was as clear as Dale Hollow and the fish were in the coves and pockets around bush and some around stickups in 3 to 6 feet of water. the fish I caught was on a green lazards fishing very slow. I know this most likely want help and maybe there will be some post from fellows that fished there this weekend.
Barren is up 10 feet over summer pool with crap everywhere!
what does the water color look like????
A big bottle of yoohoo.
Put in at the Narrows on Saturday and never left the area. Lake was fairly clear with some sticks and small logs floating. Driving past the upper end it was nasty. Stuff floating everywhere and a chocolate milk color. Had 13 bites and caught 7 fish. Most were small but had 1 3lber, caught on topwater and flipping soft plastics. I only fished until 11am and didnt experiment with spinnerbaits or crankbaits. I would love to be fishing there right now, the topwater bite was excellent until about 9:30 around flooded cover.
Water temps... Main lake 65-67, creeks 66-68. Like mentioned earlier, the lake is up, so if you launch at the Narrows, be prepared to back it down from the top of the hill, the turn around is underwater.
Dizzle were you there today, and if so did the water clear up going into the creeks. Hey guys, when the water gets muddy, like I thank it is in the main lake, wonder now deep it goes before the water is clear.![]()
Was out there all day saturday. The water was high, and the water was pretty clear on the main lake. Fishing was tough, had one 4.5, lost one around 3.5 and had a few just over 15". The water has come up so quick, its going to be a few more days before the big fish get up there. If your looking to head to barren an catch them flippin, I would wait untill the water falls to about 3-4' above summer pool. At this time the bigger fish will have moved up, and be on the quality pieces of cover, and you can realy catch them well. At this point, there is a lot of quality cover out in 6' of water that you cant even see becasue its so flooded. Hope this helps...
thanks to all that replied. gonna stay and fish cumberland given the reports as i really do not know barren well. will give it a try as the water comes down as suggested. will post results later this week. hopefully a photo or two! thanks again.
Fished Barren all day Saturday and probably caught 30-35 fish. Only had 5 keepers but all five were decent fish. 5 fish sack was about 12 lbs. Fishing was tough until 1:30 then they turned on. Saw a lot of bigger fish cruising in the main lake cuts. All fish came on a shakey head and smoke purple tube. Bite was different, never really felt the bite, fish were hitting it on the fall right up next to the flooded brush. Was a good day though for the first time on Barren.
