    Stray Cast

We are having a problem with a stray cat(s) (house cat) that is getting in my wife's flower beds to do their duty. I got some stuff to fill in the gaps in our fence gates, etc. but my wife says that the cat will just climb over the chain link fence. I know cats are agile, butI have trouble believing that a cat can climb over a four foot high chain link fence. Does anyone know if that is possible and if it is, what can we do to stop the cat from doing its thing in the flower beds? Remember that cats, animals and other intruders have more rights than the homeowner does, so keep it legal if you have a suggestion!!

I would like to hear how others solved the problem.

    Thanks,

    Grumpy

PS: The subject should have been Stray Cats (not cast),.

Cats have an aversion to citrus. I have heard several have some success at keeping cats out of the gardens, by spreading a few orange peels, or lemon peels around. I haven't tried it - don't have a much landscaping worthy of protecting any more - but my neighbor does. They have two outside cats, and they have been doing this for over a year now, and swear by it. They put about five oranges worth of peels out once a week or so.

Cayenne and black pepper will work, but wash away easy, where as the citrus peels will get stronger smelling when wet.

I would stay away from moth balls. Many people use them and say they work great, however, they are very toxic to cats and dogs.

Grumpy, cats can climb a four foot chain link fence with ease. I have a nine-year-old Brittany Spaniel bird dog and she can climb the four foot chain link fence with ease. Imagine how easy that would be for a cat.

A soft pellet gun will put a stop to it and not hurt the animal either.

Hey Grump had the same problem years ago and here's what I did.
Find the specific areas that the furry critter likes laying his load. Go to the hardware store and buy some RAT traps not mouse but rat traps they are alot bigger. Hide them in the mulch and camoflouge them nicely after setting. Once the little tiger steps in that trap a few times I promise they don't come back. I found alot of fur but no cat and Bingo they never came back. 30.06 was my first choice but hey I'm getting softer in my old age at least towards animals, lol.

I called it my feline mine field.

I agree with TimT. I had a dog that used to climb fences. Notice the term "had". She would climb it like a kid, putting her feet in the openings and just climbeb straight up. She climbed once and never came back. Cats can do the same thing.

LOL! I love that idea since I cannot stand cats that have a free ticket to piss and poop anywhere they want.

Any remedy for Starlings or black birds? I have way to many that love my trees. I send bottle rockets up in the evening but those little buggers start squawking and call in their friends.......I feel like thay are making fun of me.

I was thinking of a plastic snake thrown into the tree tops. My luck will be that they poop on it and pick it to bits. I saw them giving a Squirrel a hard time yesterday...these are some bad birds! They will go after my dog if gets to close to a certain trees.
