I am looking at buying a Rick Clunn reel from bps. I am on a fairly tight budget. The Clunn reel sounds good, but for the money is there a better one? Also what about a good spinning reel?

If you can gather a few mor bucks go ahed and try a shimano citica i believe its the best buy out there. Also the last forever.
Do you think bearings make a difference? Hey AndyG do you fish Laurel much?
I will be using it as as an all purpose bass reel. Everything from texas rig to spinerbait to top water.
I have four of the Pro Qualifier reels and really like them. They are usually the same price as the Rick Clunns but on sale right now. You can get last years model for 69.00 or this years for 79.00. I have the old style so I can't comment on this years.
OK 1 more question them I will leave you guys alone. Does any one use pflueger reels? Cabelas has a Asaro on clearence for $89.88-it was 119.99 and its the same reel bass pro has for 129.99. Any thoughts?
Thanks for all the help! Im glad I found this you guys seem knowledgeable. Again thanks for the help!
Smokefan, I have a pflueger I bought as a combo it is on an All Star rod. I like the reel. It needs oiled out of the box. Seemed a little tight and made noise during cast. It cast well and have caught a few fish on it. I have had it about a year and I like it for the money. I'm sure the one I have is a cheaper Pflueger.OK 1 more question them I will leave you guys alone. Does any one use pflueger reels? i have owned a rick clunn reel and it broke and so did my buddies rick clunn. but the rod is great. and i have a extreem and dont hardley ever use it. my favorite is my kvd reel and my johnny morris reel. most of all my reels are some sort of bps reels another one of my favorite reels is a bps royal i got it about 3 or 4 years ago during one of the spring sales it was a special offer and you cant even get it any more but it is smooth and was only like $40.00 for the rod and reel both still going strong. if i was you i would look at the kvd reels or put a little more money in and get the johnny morris for $125.00 i think the kvd's are on sale for $89.00. hope this helps.
