I've thought about camping and taking the kayak through there, but never done it.
Let me know what you find out.

Has anyone ever put a boat in the Green or Nolin at Mammoth Cave? I will be camping there soon and was wanting to do more than just walk through the cave. Thanks for the help!

I would say with all the water there pulling from the lake's( green, barren,Nolin) that the river is probably way up and not safe to be on. I've been on it at normal level and it's a nice little trip. You can put in at Dennison ferry canoe launch and take out at the green river ferry ,It's about a 7 mile trip.

I should have been a little more clear on the subject. I would like to put a johnboat in with a 25hp tiller. Will I be able to motor back upstream? What about when the water lowers later this summer? Thanks?
There is plenty of water in the Green to float all summer long. We take Kayak's in August because we know that there is water there. Fun for catching too. You can go to Houchins Ferry and take out. The campground there is more primitive but private. Be carefull with any alchohol at the Mammoth Cave campground. They are strict about it. Been there Done that.
Like KYDog said, it's a good trip from Dennison to the ferry, but there are a lot of spots along the way where the water is too shallow and swift too get back up without a fight. Lot of areas are less then 6 inches deep and have a fast current. Just check release info from the Nolin and Green River Dams before you head out.
Seems like a couple of you guys are really familiar with the area. Is it possible to canoe from the boat ramp at the park in Munfordville to Dennison Ferry? If so what about the water level this weekend- the 23rd or 24th, too dangerous ?
Ok folks now you are talking about fishing in my home waters. I fish the green alot and the water is up too high to boat at this time. If I were to camp and put a boat in in the park I would do so at Houchens ferry. If you go down the green about two miles the Nolin River dumps into the Green. Just below that about 3/4 a mile there is a dam that you could go over if you are not careful. The dam is not marked well and is dangerous. You can also go up river from Houchens Ferry about five miles with out much trouble. When going up river stay to the far left of the Islands because of sand bars and shellow water next to the Islands. When the water is at about 10' you could use the 25 hp. boat and motor ok.
The gauge reading that I am telling you about is taken at Brownsville below the dam. Here is a link.

You can also canoe from Munfordville to Houchens Farry and camp along the way but you need to check with the park about a permit if you plan to camp in the park.

It's a pretty good haul from Munfordville to Dennison's ferry about 20 mile's give or take a couple, the way there pulling the lake's down the water will be up and fast, and I would say there will alot of debris on it,if you go be careful.

Thanks for the info, Ill probably hold off on that trip.
