Cafe Standards.......get ready to buy your Prius.....

OK guys.......we ALL fish here, and I suspect most have a boat, and haul that boat all over the dang place.

With the new CAFE standards coming out, our ability to tow will be significantly diminished, if it exists at ALL. I brought this up once before, and it got no play.....was batted down as "it will never happen". Well you know what. It IS HAPPENING.

The Obomunist Administration passed new CAFE standards that will double fuel economy by 2016. All vehicles will fall into the new standard.

The King Obomunist stated that a NEW CAFE standard vehicle would recoup the extra costs in 3 years.......those extra costs being at or about $2800 bucks per vehicle. Maybe, Maybe NOT.

What about all the hidden costs.......

    * what about higher insurance rates for those smaller vehicles. THEY already exist, and the experience of those cars show HIGHER PREMIUMS.

    * what about higher INJURY RATES due to these smaller cars. WE already know you get hurt and KILLED more often in smaller cars.

    * what about HIGHER FUEL COSTS........yes HIGHER. If your new CAFE standard car gets DOUBLE the mileage.....you're paying 1/2 the Motor Fuel Taxes you used to.......SO, TAXES will be RAISED.......GUARANTEED.

    * what about the SURCHARGE we will all pay for driving a gas guzzler. WE ALREADY paid that charge by BUYING the VEHICLE. The administration is proposing a yearly "TAX" on vehicles that don't meet the CAFE standard.

    Yes.......My friends........

Welcome to Obomunism...........It's not your daddie's socialism.

    Later,

    Geo

Yea, I to think this is quite frankly the dumbest **** thing I have ever seen. An average automobile will cost the consumer an extra 1,300 dollars. An average truck would be about an extra 1,500 dollars.
The auto makers have already said it will cost them approx, 45 billion dollars to retool to make these cars and trucks. They followed that statement by saying they didn't have the money for that and would need more federal bail out money to comply.

Well, well guess who is gonna pay for that. This is a stupid idea thought up by stupid liberal tree hugging Environmentalist Whack jobs.

Scientist that have studied this so called green movement for the auto industry that don't pander to this save the planet liberal global warming insanity say this is a bad idea on several fronts. According to them the making of these batteries are actually worse for the environment than the gasoline emmisions.

This country will never survive 4 years under this man's watch, he and his liberal band of cronies are nothing shy of completely insane in my opinion. I said I would give him some time, well I have and so far he has spent us into debt my great grandchildren can't pay for. Everything and yes I mean everything he's done so far I completely disagree with, he'll NEVER be a two termer, if he even lives that long. It may come down to a social revolution in this country, the man is a flaming nutjob!

Mark, I heard on CNN early this morning that scientists have "reversed" themselves on global warming and think we're having global cooling. I wonder what changed their minds?

If CAFE standards apply to ALL vehicles, I can just imagine the presidential limousine being about the size of a VW Beetle with all those secret service agents glued to the outside of the doors with velcro. That would be as funny as heck.

Looking into my crystal ball, I see traffic jams of ATV's towing jon boats with 18-wheel Ford Rangers coughing diesel into some faces. I'm having a nightmare, I just saw me driving a Barbie Corvette!

Lawn mowers are sure to be included somewhere in those regulations. I think I will go into the lawn care business.

Question ? Does a car a truck have to be smaller and less powerful to be more fuel efficent? Does it now. Most of poor milage is due to fuel delervey systems injectors carbs etc. They way vehicles are designed now they do not maximize the fuel delivery system to make better milage. Also it can be dome to make just as big and powerful trucks that get good milage, they have Fords that get 21 Tundras that get 18/19. ten more miles a gallon should come easy. If we can put junk into space and have all the technoldgey we have today, We should be able to do this. We have had the tech for years but why bother.

Sooo. it's happening huh Grump?....soooo, I guess the auto engineering guru's are going to figure out how to make a vehicle that WILL tow? They're going to have to aren't they? I'm not saying what Grumpy says isn't true, because it probably is true...but in my own opinion I think the American people own way to many boats, way to many horse trailers, way to many campers/fifth wheels, to many race cars that have to be towed, to many lawn services haul their equipment all over town with trailers...I guess by 2016 or whenever Nobama says, I guess that's a real enough date...I guess it's gonna happen huh? (maybe)...I mean is this 2016 Bolony a "goal" or is this something that is firm, set in stone and the criteria must be met or hefty fines will be paid by the automakers who do not meet the standards? I'm not about to trade in my 97 Chevy...forget it...I like it and it likes me...I'm going to take good care of it for as long as possible because it may very well be the last true american classic I own. Since it has a 350 small block and a 4-wheel drive it doesn't get that great of gas mileage, but I don't care, I truly like my truck.

Now on a separate note, not meaning to steal the thread but since the topic is automobiles I figured I'd place this post on this thread. My neighbor who owned a full size 2007 Dodge this morning just pulled in the driveway this evening with a new 2009 Toyota Tundra. According to what he tells me he says all the latest talk about Dodge/Chrysler dealers being shut down kind of had him spooked, says he didn't know what he was going to do if he had to have mechanical work done on it, says the place he bought his Dodge truck (Coyle Dodge in Southern, IN) is one of the dealers going out of business, etc....soooo, even though we have a Chevy dealer within 7 miles of us, and even though we have a Ford dealer within 10 miles of us, he chose to purchase a G.D. *&^($#@!!! Toyota! I know some of you guys here like your "foriegn-owned-built-on-American-soil" vehicles...and that's fine (I guess), even though I don't understand it, it's fine....but it's also fine for me to despise them with the utmost hatred in the world, it's a free country, right?

Long story made short...the CAFE standards might happen but I think the towing capacity will be there because there's to much at stake otherwise. Sorry for being long winded on this one, I guess my neighbor sent me over the edge this evening.

    Peace!

Yeah, you're right. Much better to just keep buying oil from all those countries that hate us so much. May be they can up the price of oil again to stick it too us again. The less of that stuff that we have to use, the better off we are. Better fuel efficency and alt fuels will eventually get us weaned off foreign oil altogether.

I don't believe for a second that this will mean everyone will be owning prius or similar cars soon. A little better effeciency and they are there. Hell, my first car was a 1973 Chevy, V8, 145 hp. My Tacoma is a V4 that is 150 hp. Tows a boat just fine. The 4 stroke Merc (50 hp) on my boat probably gets close to twice the mileage as my last boat with a 40 hp 2 stroke.

Also saw a quote by an auto exec that in some ways this will help them. Right now they have different standards depending on where the vehicle is being shipped. The new standards mean that everything will be the same. Much easier for them that way.

Being built here means American jobs. Many "American" auto makers have a lot of their work done overseas (non-American jobs). Americans working is a good thing.

I never said buy foreign oil.........we have enough here that we WILL NOT DRILL because of some really dumb-ass rules.....

    DRILL IT..........PUMP IT.........BURN IT.

Shale oil.........Tar Fields...........Gulf Oil we cannot get to because of environmental rules.

The same field that Brazil is drilling is very similar to fields that exist RIGHT ON OUR FREAKIN BACK DOOR...........

China is operating the largest deep water oil derick off the coast of Cuba........SIDE DRILLING OUR OIL.........

    DRILL NOW.

Well George beat me to it. We have twice the oil those rag heads have but the same evironmentalist whack jobs I speak of WON'T let us drill for it. Heck we might crush a defenseless earthworm or something, lol.

So, we drill in Alaska and off-shore. Any guarentee that the oil we find will be used here rather than sold to the highest bidder (China)? Fossil fuels are non-renewable. Wouldn't it make more sense to have resources here that we could exploit in times of dire need rather than use those resources now even though we can get them elsewhere? Wouldn't it make sense to develop altnerative sources of energy rather than keep relying on a non-renewable resource? Sooner or later all the oil will be gone. You really want to wait until the last minute to figure out an alternative? Seems to me that we would be better off working on the long-term solution now rather than go with some quick fix that we know will land us right back in the same place in a few years.
