Yeah, you're right. Much better to just keep buying oil from all those countries that hate us so much. May be they can up the price of oil again to stick it too us again. The less of that stuff that we have to use, the better off we are. Better fuel efficency and alt fuels will eventually get us weaned off foreign oil altogether.
I don't believe for a second that this will mean everyone will be owning prius or similar cars soon. A little better effeciency and they are there. Hell, my first car was a 1973 Chevy, V8, 145 hp. My Tacoma is a V4 that is 150 hp. Tows a boat just fine. The 4 stroke Merc (50 hp) on my boat probably gets close to twice the mileage as my last boat with a 40 hp 2 stroke.
Also saw a quote by an auto exec that in some ways this will help them. Right now they have different standards depending on where the vehicle is being shipped. The new standards mean that everything will be the same. Much easier for them that way.

Well George beat me to it. We have twice the oil those rag heads have but the same evironmentalist whack jobs I speak of WON'T let us drill for it. Heck we might crush a defenseless earthworm or something, lol.
So, we drill in Alaska and off-shore. Any guarentee that the oil we find will be used here rather than sold to the highest bidder (China)? Fossil fuels are non-renewable. Wouldn't it make more sense to have resources here that we could exploit in times of dire need rather than use those resources now even though we can get them elsewhere? Wouldn't it make sense to develop altnerative sources of energy rather than keep relying on a non-renewable resource? Sooner or later all the oil will be gone. You really want to wait until the last minute to figure out an alternative? Seems to me that we would be better off working on the long-term solution now rather than go with some quick fix that we know will land us right back in the same place in a few years.
Andrew
I never said I was against alternative fuels, because I am quite for them actually. Wind, Water, Solar, Nuclear, just to name a few. But the tree huggers are against alot of that to it seems. I'm willing to bet there is a twenty to thirty year supply of Oil to be tapped inside of our borders here in the United States. The plan BHO has come up with is ludicris and won't work and will actually cost us all more money in the long run, but Mr. Big Government is all about fixing everything. He and his band of idiots feel is broke so hey let's spend some MORE MONEY. Which by the way he is really really good at!
Global warming is the biggest Witch Hunt of the 21st century. We just recorded one of the coldest winters EVER in many regions of the country this past winter and Scientist are saying this is now a trend we can look forward to for several years to come.
Global warming= Fooyyee, Poppycock, Horsemanure, don't beleive in it one darn bit waht so ever!
I'm not going to turn this into a global warming debate.......BUT.......for the past 8-9 years, we have actually cooled FASTER than any other time in RECORDED HISTORY.........more than in the 1970's when the SAME scientists screaming about Warming were screaming about cooling.Global warming is the biggest Witch Hunt of the 21st century. I said NOTHING about Alaska.........that is a red herring......Those fields can produce about 5% of the oil that WILL be FOUND using oil sands, tar fields, and offshore.
Our oil CANNOT be burned here...........DUMBASS environmental rules with regards to sulfur content. WHILE I understand the rules........they FORCE us to sell our oil to others.
AND............dumping oh say 2 million barrels a day on the open market will do WONDERS for stabilizing prices.
AND.............finally........most of OUR oil comes from Canada.....and CANADA has some of the MOST strigent requirements for turning tar fields into OIL......
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/p...nt/import.html
AND if most of our OIL comes from Canada.......and OUR oil sands and tar sands are 2 times as LARGE............WHAT do you suppose that will do for our oil reserves.....

We need to build bigger more powerful trucks to pull our 500 hp glitter boats . What do we care if our grandkids have to go back to horses Hell we'll be dead anyway. Besides look at all the money we can make as stockholders in these companies. You folks that can't afford to pay for that gas will have do like I did go out and bust your butt work like a dog and make the big bucks so you can do anything you want. If you don't like tough, ahhhh its great to be a capiltist ain't it?
There's hope for you yet Joe, I'm still waiting on my piggyback you promised. We need to build bigger more powerful trucks to pull our 500 hp glitter boats . I'm an old person refresh my mind on the piggyback?
Sooo, Canada supplies MOST of our oil?? Funked math in school, right. According to the figures you supplied (total for 2008), just under 21% came from Canada. Saudis are not far behind and neither is Venezuela. Yep, thems some good friends!DUDE you need to stop crying, and do some RESEARCH.

Hey, just keep thinking short-term. Nothing could go wrong now could it??
Andrew
OK I misspoke a little........They are the LARGEST supplier of OUR OIL......Sooo, Canada supplies MOST of our oil?? Funked math in school, right. Lets nitpick the CRAP out of it........Here are the details.........
CANADA 1,913.........................Ally.
MEXICO 1,219.........................Ally.
SAUDI ARABIA 1,099.................Ally......scary Ally, but STILL, and Ally.
VENEZUELA 960.......................CRAZY MOFO.
ANGOLA 671............................WHO CARES.
IRAQ 554................................Ally, kind of.
NIGERIA 457............................Don't KNOW.
BRAZIL 365................................Ally
KUWAIT 251..............................We saved their ASS..........Ally.
ECUADOR 243.............................Don't know.
COLOMBIA 225............................Don't know.
EQUATORIAL GUINEA 167.................Don't know.
ALGERIA 142...............................Don't know.
RUSSIA 139...............................Becoming CRAZY AGAIN......
CHAD 101...................................Don't know.
So, we get nearly 5 million barrels a day from Canada, Mexico, VENEZUELA, and IRAQ. That is nearly 1/2 of our OIL from "safer" places.
IRAQ is questionable......
If we can pump 2 million barrels or 3 million barrels........That would eliminate another 20 percent or so.....of oil coming from people who HATE US.
Yes......my numbers were WRONG...........BUT We DON'T import as much from The Middle EAST as we used to..............
Bottom LINE..........if you want to stop sending money to people that HATE US.....drill our own oil.
One final Note....if you use the bottom chart, Canada supplies DOUBLE what any other contry does of all petrol products........
AND they are close to providing more than the top 3 combined..........
AND if you look at all petrol products.......you can CLEARLY see that 2/3 of our imports come from NON middle east countries.

Wow there is some good stuff right there. I'm for saying we drill for our own oil while trying to perfect alternatives. It seems this administration likes to go cold turkey on things. Why? We don't have to. It's like Gitmo, shut it down and then try to figure out a plan. Seems backwards to me. Why not come out and say that we as an administation are interested in poking our enemies in the eye by drilling for our own oil and at the same time going full speed to develope alternatives. I guess that wont work because other polititians have said the same thing and they lost. We get what we vote for.
