the bulb does not stay hard after the engine runs a little. if the engine continues to run while you pump the bulb, your problem is a bad fuel pump.

I am a far cry from being a engine repairman. I need some advice from someone who knows a lot more than I do.
I had a problem on the water yesterday after many years of no problems. After getting home I found the fuel bulb on my 150 Johnson is not staying tight and my motor will start to run rough after a few minutes. when I squeeze the bulb a few times it will straighten right out and purr. Here is the thing. I cannot find a leak in the gas line anywhere. I know it s getting air from somewhere. I am going to replace the whole fuel line anyway because it is due, my question is could this be something else that I am overlooking?
Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm just guess but if the fuel line is quite few year's old it could be getting dry rotten and bleeding seeping air. Just a thought.

If you have a main tank and a reserve tank your valve to switch tanks could be leaking by too. A buddy of mine had that problem. Gilly is probably right about the fuel pump though. I have had the same symptoms and the fuel pump solved my problem.
When is the last time you replaced the primer bulb? The bulb it self could be bad. They do go bad over time. I have a similar problem. My primer bulb goes soft when sitting to long in the sun. Only when it is warm out side. In the 80's. But once I change my primer bulb, I am good for a year or so. If you replace your primer bulb and you still have problems, then yes, it could be your fuel pump. Or some restriction from your tank. A new primer bulb is a cheap fix before taking it in to a shop.I am a far cry from being a engine repairman. I need some advice from someone who knows a lot more than I do.
