I am looking for places to fish (with no boat) near Lexington, preferably within 20-30 minute drive. Any ideas?
there are several public areas in georgetown on elkhorn.
Cedar Creek Lake off Hwy 150 down past Danville is pretty awesome, they have areas where you can bank fish. Not really sure how far away that is from Lexington though.
Coming from East Lex (Richmond Rd/MOW) area ... Cedar Creek is about a 1hr drive. Straight down Nicholasville Rd to Stanford, left on Hwy 150 towards Crab Orchard. Bank fishing areas are available, but limited.
Be aware, that ticks are present & plentiful in the area ... and take the necessary precautions.

KY River below lock 8, Stoner Creek, Elkhorn Creek and you can rent a boat at Beaver or Wilgreen.
Thanks guys ...
There is a lot of bank access on the KY River at Fort Boonesboro State Park. Above and below Lock 10.
Go to Frankfort and fish the game farm lakes at thee Salato Wildlife center. While there--during business hours, Monday thru Friday--go to the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife office located on the property and pick up a copy of their Fishing Journal that has all the state run facilities for fishing. It will surprise you as to how many lakes, rivers and streams have access for bank fsiherman in this area. Cedar Creek is great-I got one 6lb bass on 5-28 and my friend got one 7lb bass--both were caught from the bank on crankbaits.
