    Question Trolling Rods Question

I'm in the process of setting up my boat for trolling for walleye up in the U.P., But I also want to troll for stripers and walleye later in the year in KY. I so far have planer boards and rod holders (2 on each side) and I'm looking to get some rods just for trolling. My question is do I need reels with line counters? Or can I just use some M/H spinning rods, maybe 8ft. Also is there anything else I might need? Any help would be great since I havent trolled for many years and looking forward to trying it.

    Thanks, Rick

Get the reels with counters. I troll for stripers on Cumberland and it makes it much easier to stay at a consistent depth.

    Re: Trolling Rods Question

You might consider high capacity baitcasting reels (abu 6500 series, for example) rather than the spinning reels. You can get line counters that attach to the rod. Just remove when you want to use them for something other than trolling.
