    Re: Hummingbird Side Imaging ??

I deal with it a lot working at Bass Pro in Clarksville. A lot of guys I work and deal with wouldn't have anything else. I will say that like Boat Bum, you will see a lot of new sights, and it is expensive, but many find it worth it, and come back for another. However, it's primary purpose is for finding structure, or holes for cats, not so much suspended fish like striper. However, it does have a great sonar also for that option.

I haven't used one yet but I figured it would be a great way to find schools of bait and fish. I know it would be hard to tell the depth, but at least you wold know whether to go right or left. But that isn't the case?

You can use the standard sonar for that, however, the way Side Imaging is scanning the bottom, the majority of suspended fish shown will be in a center water collumn readout, but will not show how far to the right or left. If you were to pair up you're sonar and side imaging on split screen, you could be a little more accurate with your estimate of where fish are suspended. It's hard to explain on here, but your more than welcome to come check out our displays and fire some questions at us at Bass Pro. PM me if you need further assistance.

Thanks! Yeah, I know using the side view is difficult for figuring depth. You have to try to visually caculate the length of the shadow and such. Knowing where to go (left or right) seems more what it could be used for, then when you get there check the sonar. I've been studying up on it but I may take you up on the offer and come by for a first hand demo. My fear is I'll end up walk out with one.. LOL
