depends on the other elements for me, is it cold and windy??? I would go anyway so long as the conditions weren't any worse than just rain. I did that a few weeks ago on driftwood. Spotty showers all day but when I got to the lake it was just over cast and only had sprinkles to deal with for a few minutes. Turned into a nice afternoon of fishing and the lake was very quiet.
The only thing that will keep me home is lightning, or strong winds. I dont mind fishing in the rain at all, I have actually had some of my best days sticking it out and fishing the elements. Wind is my enemy though, I hear a lot of guys talk about needing wind to catch fish. But, I have a 16' aluminum, and wind blows me around like a tin can.
I throw on the rain suit and go!![]()
i fish any conditions ... no matter what.... ive got my best fish in some of the worst conditions
Buddy spend some money on Gore-Tex. This stuff will help you withstand about any conditions the hoosier state has. I fish in the rain and have had some of my best days on the water in rainy weather. Now for lighting ,I just don't mess with.
Had the feeling one day and hit the big lake in February some years back. High that day was in the mid 20's 30mph winds and blowing snow. Got to the ramp and there was about 4 inches of snow on it. After about 30 minutes of contemplating I decided to go for it. It was a dry snow and made it down and out no problem. Trolled the big shadraps till about noon and not a hit, froze to the bone, fishin poles looked like long icecycles. I had this thought overcome me that I had lost my mind for being out there. Shortly after bang bang bang. For about three hours was probably the best fishing and biggest browns and steelhead on Lake MI I've ever run into. Rain. I live for a light rain to fish in. Ya gotta dress for it though.
Fish can't get any wetter. You can buy stuff to keep ya dry.
