Tough Call..........
Spring Pros:
* Better fishing..........fish are prespawn, spawn, and postspawn the first week of June.
* LOTS of fish.........
* Better Chances on Walleye, and Lakers........
* LONGER days.......4am - 10pm. You can be on the water all that time.
Spring Cons:
* Raining season........You can get rain all week.
* Can be REALLY COLD.
* BUGS can be horrible.........but if you go last week may/first week june, you generally miss them.
* Can be REALLY windy.
* REALLY COLD water..........potentially dangerous.
Fall Pros:
* Potential for bigger fish. Feeding up for the Winter, they are MONSTERS.
* No bugs. Generally after mid August they are gone. Labor day trips are GREAT.
* Water temps may still be good for swimming and cleaning up.
* Usually pretty good weather.....but COLD fronts can be **** COLD. We had a 50 degree shift last year in 1 day.
* More time to sit around the fire eating dinner, shooting the crap with friends.
* Less People
Fall Cons:
* Definitely LESS FISH.............about 1/3 as many per day as in the spring. 30 fish is a GOOD day in the Fall, where 70 is a GOOD day in the spring.
* Cold Snaps end the fishing........PERIOD......Finess fishing may work, but has not in the past.
* Less time to fish........6:00am - 7:00pm.
I like both trips............and I've made more spring trips, but I think I might like fall trips better.......that jury is still out.
Later,
Geo
