Glad you made it back. The weather up there has a way of reminding you that you are alive or rather has a way of making you thank God you're alive.
I've never been up in the spring but I really like the fall fishing. You rarely see other people, there are no bugs and the weather the last 3 out of 4 years was pretty good. In the fall the fish are mostly stacked up on reefs in a certain water depth. We go in mid September. Usually smallies are 25-35 feet deep, walleye are 10-20 and lakers are 70-90. If you have a fish finder and look in those depths you'll find fish. In cold front situations the fish might go deeper but they are usually still there. If you can't get them to bite it doesn't last long and you can alway resort to sight seeing as it's one of the most beautiful places on earth.
As long as my usual September group holds together I'm going to have to go with them to help (I'm the youngest guy so I clean all the fish and do the grunt work) but if it ever falls through you can count me in. If not you guys are welcome to use my canoe, it's an old Alumicraft but she's tried and tested in that country.
As far as cost goes we have all of our own gear and take our own food. For a group of 8 it runs about $400.00 each per year. We take our own motor and tow ourselves to American Point so if you are getting a tow in you'll have to take that into account as well but it is very reasonable and will save you a bunch of needless paddling.
