Heard the news this morning and now the Democratic controlled congress wants to control and regulate tobacco as a drug like any other drug. Translation = A way to federally tax the daylights out of it and have their big brother paws on yet another private business entity. Of course His Excellency is all for this move, whatever they say he fawns over like a teenage girl over a new Coach purse.

I'm not a smoker, I find it to be a disgusting habit but believe in if you want to smoke the dang things then smoke'em. I also don't think Government should control it like a regular drug.

BTW, Not that it matters but did you know that Obama smokes like a cabin chimney in winter time.

I also heard that he has appointed 20+ Czars and it's not over. According to the reports on radio these guys answer directly to him. Power hungry bozo!

This is nothing new. There has been talk about the FDA regulating tobacco for years and years. As far as taxes, we're already taxing the daylights out of it, and I don't see this having a whole lot of effect how much it's taxed. And if we're going to have an FDA, isn't this the kind of thing they're for? Heck, while we're at it, let's legalize marijuana and let them regulate that, too

I eat greasy foods with transfats in them, I'm overweight and have high blood pressure are we going to regulate that to. Andrew the point is what's next, where does it stop, are we going to regulate and tax the air we breathe. I realize I'm getting a little overboard here but this is the point I was attempting to make.
Yes your point is valid smoking will kill you grave yard dead, so will alot of other things we can't control what people do, but this adminstration is sure going to give it a heck of a shot.

Hell the government has never cared if you smoke or drink or eat too much ...they care if they have to pay the hospital bill to treat you later and when you die its one less taxpaying person funding the trough. It burns my ass cause in bootcamp they encouraged smoking and sold the **** things for 15cents apack if memory serves me right. i did not smoke b4 boot but when that long legged sumbitch drilling us said smokers kick out and take a smoke break the rest of ya keep running old Joe had a pack of camels the next day. The thing that I wish they would fix instead of going after the easy target is Illegal Immigration. How much money do we the taxpayers eat when their babies are born here? When they go and get free meds? How much money do we spend in housing or caring for these people?

Heck make them do it the legal way and pay taxes like the rest of us and then lets see how much more tax money we have.

Our big brother is wanting to take care of us as long as it's politically correct and an easy target.

My cigars don't have directions on them, just government mandated warning that the product can harm you. Are saying if you use alcohol as er..directed it won't kill you? Are you ready for the government to regulate beer and liquor the same way?

Every cent we pay in taxes or more taxes is less freedom we have over our own lives. I despise taxes and am automatically against all tax increases and automatically for all tax decreases no matter what the circumstance. The government needs to learn to live within its means like we all do.

Not sure that I get the comparison of tobacco and alcohol. Used in moderation, alcohol will not kill you. In fact, there have been a number of studies showing that a glass of wine or a beer a day can be good for you. Not so with smoking or other tobacco products. They represent one of the biggest contributors to adult deaths in the US. If we are for not letting the gov’t interfere with our lives, then why are crack, heroin, pot, etc. illegal? After all, marijuana does have medicinal purposes.

Guess my point is, if I start producing a food for human consumption that contains arsenic, for example, it will be pulled from the shelves in no time if it is even allowed to hit the markets. Why is tobacco different?

I don't mind paying some taxes. We need military, new roads, police and fire protection. But, the taxation is getting a little out of hand.
