    SWIMBAITS for SMALLMOUTHS

I'm making an annual trip to Lake Erie this weekend to fish for smallmouth. I'm going to try one of the new medium sized hollow belly swimbaits. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with smallmouth on these swimbaits?

First things first, what time are you picking me up? lol The guys on infishermen were doing pretty good with them. I have a few buddies up in Maine that also swear by them. I would also take smljaws advice and find some of those gobie baits.

Tubes still work really well on Lake Erie, other baits do work but the tube is by far the most consistent bait by a long shot with colors varying depending on current diet.
I just got back from Lake St. Claire and fished Thursday through Saturday. Tried goby, swim baits, jerk baits, cranks etc. and still the tube out numbered all day ever day. When the bite slowed down though on the tube I through a jerk bait and the smallies would just slam the jerk bait when they hit. It is fun no doubt with a jerk bait because how hard they hit it, never mind the 3 foot musky that slammed it as well when I almost lost my rod.
Fishing was good with over 40 fish per person so with two people 100+ fish days were not too hard to come by.
The power of St. Claire small mouths are truly amazing.

Don't worry Mhall I am with you and they all went back in the water. I did keep a few rockbass though for the dinner plate but no smallies.
I have fished Erie and St. Claire a lot and both are really good when the bite is on.
