What "VERY SIMILAR thing" are you talking about? The events leading up to that famous speech at the Brandenburg Gate were nothing like what's going on in Iran today. At that time, the increased tensions between us and the USSR were mainly due to OUR military buildup, especially when it came to stationing missiles in Europe. And I'm not saying we were right or wrong to do it, just that THAT was what the fuss was all about at that time. Now, we have a Middle East country clamping down on dissent after a disputed ELECTION. Besides, communism was on the decline long before Reagan gave that speech, and saying that those words, memorable though they may be, contributed directly to its demise, is WAY overstating the case. Communism fell the same way that Islamist theocratic fascism will fall; it crumbled from within. THAT is what we are witnessing today in Iran, and for now, we're doing the right thing taking a "wait and see" position.
Look at what Obama said in Cairo, then look at what's happening now in Iran. It makes the man look almost psychic. Like him or not, you've gotta admit he NAILED it on that one!
