It depends on which fishery you're talking about. They stock them in ponds around Louisville and a couple other urban areas:

and those, of course, are strictly "put-take" stockings.

But there ARE quite a few natural trout streams in KY, and many of them are catch-and-release only for part of the year:

These are "put-grow-take" stockings. Trout can and do survive the summer quite nicely in these streams. And the Cumberland River tailwaters is as good a trout fishery as you'll find anywhere in the country.
