swim baits??

Ok, so I myself am dissapointed with the amount sucsess I've had with swimbaits. Not only have I tore a dozen or so up trying to rig them but I have only caught maybe 5 fish on them and 2 of those were stripers on the ohio. So what type of sucsess has everyone else had with theese. Any tips?? They're a little pricey to justify the amount of sucsess I've had to keep trying.

BassKing, it seems by the replies you have gotten that most of us may feel as you. Maybe swimbaits should be listed in the speciality bait catagory. By that I mean it is a bait you don't use every day because there are the cranks, spinnerbaits and grubs that may work just as well and not so expensive. However, when they are not being used they sure look good in your tackle box, and you keep saying..."Boy, they sure should catch fish." Swimbaits fished in the right places and the right times will catch fish. I think deep trolling and jigging can be productive for striper bass, or jigging humps and off-structure for largemouth. I keep a few of the hard plastic ones in my tackle box because they look so pretty. Some are a work of art and would look really good on wall.

I have had no luck with them I catch most of my fish on a 4 or 5 inch dip stick worm, same as a senko. I like natural colors work for me.

I've been using River2Sea pre-rigged swimbaits with some of the best success I have had with any other lure. They don't last forever, but they are somewhat cheap, stay where you want them to run and the fish seem to like them.

Guys I think just like you do and if it wouldn't for TV and some of the fish I hear about other fishermen catching on them I wouldn't keep them around in the way. I do put one on and have it laying around in the way just for when I see chad in the jumps, which I haven't done any good.But now about a year or so ago I felt the same way about crank baits but now I think they rock.So I guess I may need to learn how to fish them.

I haven't had much luck with them either. I have only fished them during the day though. My next and maybe last try will be at night with a rattle. I'll see how that goes.

Ok guys,, I talked to a good freind of mine that is a very known tourney fisherman in TN on percy preist,center hil, ect.... He really shed a little light on this for me. First , he claims unless ur throwin them in big schools or jumps this time of year is tough for them. In the spring and fall when they're really fattnin up on shad is better he says. Second, don't buy any smaller than 5 and a half inches. He told me this, a three pound basss will eat a 5-7 inch shad. And I've heard the same from others as well. Third a 6-7 ot hook with a 8th ounce weight is best. Third, he says fish them the same way as a crank bait unless u find them in the jumps and try to keep it close to the bottom near structure like a crank. I think the next trip I'm gonna try them at night or first thing in the morn and try to keep them close to any structue on the bottom. I will share any tips or report any sucsess I have cause I know theese bait will produce some hogs. Also, anyone lookin for hybrids in the jumps should keep one tied on as well.
