Bubbabass1, my dad, and I went to Nolin for 4th of July weekend with the family. We fished as much as mom and the weather would let us.
1st- Harryprocraft jumped in the boat with us this night and we fished all night. dusk till dawn. the bite was slow early on but picked up a little late into the night. We caught around 30 or so. They were mostly nice slot fish. Some under but none over. Didnt do well at all on the main lake up around red rock. We caught the majority of our fish on small plastics back in brier creek.
2nd- fished from right at dark till around 2:30am. went straight back to brier and stayed with small plastics. I caught 3 nice healthy slots on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th casts of the night off of one single point. I would have only caught the first one if I hadn't told the front of the boat to slow it down and go back. He says we just drifted but i think he just got worried that I would out fish himWe fished down that bank and dad picked up a few dinks. Got to the next point and I caught a big chunky rock bass and dad caught a nice slot right off the bat. We backed off the point a bit and I tossed back up to the bank and pulled my bait off the first ledge. I was expecting my lure to fall for a while but it only fell for a wee bit so I tightened up my line and felt a little nibble. I tightened up a little bit more and 'crossed them eyes' as dad would say. At first I thought it was caught up in a tree or stump but then she jumped. It was actually more of a woller I guess because she couldnt get her big chunk of a belly out of the water. Dad jumped for the net and I proceeded to just hold on. I had 17# mono on but it was on an older fairly light weight baitcaster so she was pullin drag like crazy. Under the boat, back up to the surface, back down again. I kept tellin dad "here it comes" so he could net her but as soon as i could get the words out she pulled drag again. Finally we got her into the net. She was extremely close to 5lbs (I know that's not that big for some of you on here but for me she was a hog). She had big healthy belly but she was quite short so I dont think she broke 5. I had hooked her in the base of the tongue right infront of the gullet so she was bleedin like a stuck pig. We cut the line and placed her in the live well to see how she was gunna do. We had mountain dew in the boat but didnt think about pouring that on it till later. I checked on her a little bit later and she was belly up but still waving her fins and flaring her gills. I picked her up and put her in the water to try to revive her but as soon as she got into that water she swatted that tail, covered me with water, and swam straight down as healthy as she could be. I guess she was playin opossom. We kept on fishing and finished up the night with slots. Maybe around 15 between the two of us.
3rd-We didnt fish at all this day. We took a break and hung out at the campground with family and made smores. Dad needed it. He was beat.
4th- We woke up early and fished from 3:45am to around 10am. As usual we went back to brier but the bite was tough this morning. We didnt catch anything until the sun came up. Dad caught one on a carolina rig and one on a buzz bait and I caught one on a pop-r. Then the fish started busting like crazy pretty close to the boat. I caught 2 on the pop-r and I think dad caught 1 or 2 on a spitin' image out of the jumps. They were all smaller kentuckies but there's nothing like a top water bite and I dont think anything can change my mind on that. We went further back into brier and one single fish busted the surface right behind the boat. Dad piched his jig on top of it just messing around and a little kentucky blasted it like a freight train as it hit the water. That was the last fish of the trip.
Overall it was a fun trip. Spent some time with family at the campground and caught some fish. We didnt have the numbers that we usually do but most of the fish we caught were nice 14 inch slots and if I'm not fishing a tourny I'll catch those all day long without the slightest complaint.

Paper! Ha i win! I'll take brier. I guess you can have conolaway (sp) I'm sure they jump there too![]()
