Snuck away from work today to fish the river during the hottest part of the day 11-3:30pm. Turned out to not be too bad of an idea!! Water was 80-82 and very stained. The key was to fish SLOW. Smaller bass would not hit the crankbait hard, they just mouthed it like a worm-very strange. I missed who knows how many before I figured that out when my lure was running sideways!! Good news is the bigger bass nailed the lure! Fished for 4 1/2 hours and landed 12 bass (9 keepers-biggest at 18 inches LM and a 15 inch SM), lost one LM that would have gone 4#+, (he jumped twice), 2 big drum (5lb +), 1 small drum, and two break offs from big fish-either big drums or I suspect one was a muskie. All caught on a crankbait-any color as long as it was fire tiger, very slow and just off the bottom. Lots of debris still floating though so be careful!!!
