3/0-5/0 wide gap style work for me
I agree with fisherjoe and mhall.
Gammy's or Owner's are nice. Even the ole Eagle Claw wide gap is a good hook. Thick would be better for the application you speak of.
The Shaw Grigby Eagle Claw hook with the clip on the top are perfect. The might tear up the bait a little after a hard hookset, but you are definitely going to stick a hook in the fish!!! They have a unique bend to them, and the clip keeps the head of the tube in place. I'm pretty sure a 3/0 would be the best for a 3.5" tube. A 4/0 would work better for a 4-4.5". Hope that helps.
I have not seen these hooks yet, where have I been, gotta check these out.The Shaw Grigby Eagle Claw hook with the clip on the top are perfect. They've been out for a couple of years. You can get em at Bass Pro and Dicks if you want to go to a corporate place. If you have a local tackle store, they may have them. They don't have Shaw Grigby's name on them anymore, but they are the same style hook. Just look for a Kahle-looking hook with a clip in the eye. The hook is a little heavier wire. You'll know them when you see them.![]()
I had a pro told me to use a 5 I did not like it I use a heavy 3 and hook it weedless. Im far from a pro but it works for me, really started fishing tubes about 2 years ago, l use them in the spring and fall mostly.
