Any of you guys know a good place to fish for trout or redfish from the shore in Destin? I'm headed down next week for vacation.
Or anything else that is good to eat
thanks,
Jason

Google "Pensacola Fishing Forum" and check it out over there, a good regional resource like fishing.com is for Kentuckiana.
Also there are several public piers in that area that offer good fishing, use shrimp for bait and load of on the Mangrive snappers. Also on piers you do not need a license, but you do from the shore, I think. You have to pay a small fee to fish the piers.Have fun.
about $30 or $35 can get you a trip out for 6 hrs - we did it down there and it was great. there was about 30 people on this big boat but it was a hoot - if you get seasick DON'T DO IT! if not it's a blast. We stay at Maravilla and just checked the advertisements in the room

I've been down there for the last 9 yrs. I go in jan- mar. I have fished on most of the party boats down there. The Swoop has been the best day in and day out. It's down around AJ's. I love to fish, can handle ky lake on the worst day. I recommend deep sea fishing in 1 - 3 ft seas. I went one time in 3 - 5 foot seas. trust me KY lake can't touch that. I didn't throw up but I was fighting it. most people were throwing up in their coolers. but you catch a few grouper at 15 dollars a lb you get your money back and great eating. While your down there go to the fisherman's wharf and get the amberjack and get a side order of the alligator tail can't beat it. I'm homesick now thanks
You driving a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive? If you are in a 4 wheel drive go across the bridge towards Okaloosa Island and keep your eye out on the right hand side. As soon as the bay comes up close to the road (watch for the pine trees to end) and pull over and then pull into the sand. This is where the 4 wheel comes in handy. The sand there is loose. You can't park on the blacktop and you can't pull into the sand very far or the cops will stop and make you move.
If you are in a 2 wheel drive have someone drop you off about 7:00 am. We did best from 7:00-10:00 and then again in the afternoon. Wade there and fish the deep holes that are in that area. I was there in June and we killed the flounder and slot reds. The best we did was 2 keeper reds and 11 keeper flounder between two of us in 3 hours. Most mornings we'd catch 5-10 keeper fish. My son caught a 23" trout in that spot too. Fish all the way up to the retaining wall. Wade up to the deep holes and cast out and then hop the bait off of the bottom. If I remember right there is a deep hole running from the retaining wall back toward the bridge, fish that whole thing, the flounder lay on the edge waiting to eat.
For bait: Go to half hitch and get you some 3/8 and 1/2 oz jig heads and Gulp shirmp in new penny color. You can also get popping corks and new penny pogies, basically anything in the new penny color. Also try chartreuse paddle tail grubs and jig heads and copper spoons for reds. If you plan on fishing quite a bit buy the bucket of Gulp shrimp, it will be cheaper. We bought by the pack and ended up buying about 10 packs.
You can also fish under the destin bridge (Okaloosa side). There was alot of June grass when we were there but we did pretty well casting Gulp between the pilings and then wading up toward the Coast Guard station. There is a big grass flat there and early in the morning a popping cork and small live pinfish/shrimp absolutely killed there. Just cast it out, give it a pop or two and let it sit, if you don't get a hit give it another pop or two. You can buy pinfish at half hitch or catch your own on a bluegill rig with a small hook.
You can fish the Okaloosa pier but truthfully we did alot better in the bay, beach fishing is a waste of time this time of year because of the grass (moss) close to the beach. We also fished the jetties and had fun there but I had a 10 year old with me and it can be dangerous.
