You driving a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive? If you are in a 4 wheel drive go across the bridge towards Okaloosa Island and keep your eye out on the right hand side. As soon as the bay comes up close to the road (watch for the pine trees to end) and pull over and then pull into the sand. This is where the 4 wheel comes in handy. The sand there is loose. You can't park on the blacktop and you can't pull into the sand very far or the cops will stop and make you move.

If you are in a 2 wheel drive have someone drop you off about 7:00 am. We did best from 7:00-10:00 and then again in the afternoon. Wade there and fish the deep holes that are in that area. I was there in June and we killed the flounder and slot reds. The best we did was 2 keeper reds and 11 keeper flounder between two of us in 3 hours. Most mornings we'd catch 5-10 keeper fish. My son caught a 23" trout in that spot too. Fish all the way up to the retaining wall. Wade up to the deep holes and cast out and then hop the bait off of the bottom. If I remember right there is a deep hole running from the retaining wall back toward the bridge, fish that whole thing, the flounder lay on the edge waiting to eat.

For bait: Go to half hitch and get you some 3/8 and 1/2 oz jig heads and Gulp shirmp in new penny color. You can also get popping corks and new penny pogies, basically anything in the new penny color. Also try chartreuse paddle tail grubs and jig heads and copper spoons for reds. If you plan on fishing quite a bit buy the bucket of Gulp shrimp, it will be cheaper. We bought by the pack and ended up buying about 10 packs.

You can also fish under the destin bridge (Okaloosa side). There was alot of June grass when we were there but we did pretty well casting Gulp between the pilings and then wading up toward the Coast Guard station. There is a big grass flat there and early in the morning a popping cork and small live pinfish/shrimp absolutely killed there. Just cast it out, give it a pop or two and let it sit, if you don't get a hit give it another pop or two. You can buy pinfish at half hitch or catch your own on a bluegill rig with a small hook.

You can fish the Okaloosa pier but truthfully we did alot better in the bay, beach fishing is a waste of time this time of year because of the grass (moss) close to the beach. We also fished the jetties and had fun there but I had a 10 year old with me and it can be dangerous.
