I was at the Riverfront Friday to listen to the Marlins play. It was a great show.
Spoke to the Mayor and was informed that work will be started on the ramp in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
We shall wait and see.

That is good news. The ramp has really fell apart recently. I also would be willing to pay a launch fee if it went towards maintaining the ramp. Keep us posted if you hear any more.
If they do it, it will be great, but actions speak louder than words sometime and I'm wondering why they didn't do it when they had all the concrete and black top equipment down there? It seems it would have been cheaper than packin it all back in there. I guess the government way of doing things is alittle bass akwards. Well it only took them how long to get the parking lot and the pretty lights up...looks like I'll be droppin in at 111 or pray the corp.doesn't sink me at Lois and Clark.lol Can't look a gift horse in the mouth I guess, and I'd be glad to pay to. Sorry bout the rant, and thanks for the update Tyme...Chuck
Riverrat12, how is that ramp on 111? I went to look at it last year and there were pieces of rebar sticking up all over. I'm also a little leary of leaving my truck and trailer in that desolate parking lot.
Lewis and Clark in Clarksville, yeh the discharge shoots right up on the ramp. I've learned that anything over 7 feet of release on the lower can cause problems in launching/recovery.
I'm not sure if they are just going to pave the New Albany ramp to the water or actually restore the entire ramp. That's the ramp that the water rescue team uses so one would think the powers that be would like to have that ramp in a more usable condition. Plus, with the low water level we have now I'm not sure I can launch/retrieve at New Albany. (18 foot Stratos)
I wouldn't recommend the New Albany ramp at this water level. Lost my trailer rear axle a few days ago trying to launch my tin bass boat. Four hundred dollars later, I've learned my lesson. If they don't have a permanent fix for the end of the ramp at low water conditions, re-surfacing is only going to make it look pretty and only useful at higher water levels. I also would be receptive to a reasonable launch fee if it would help maintian the facility. With barge traffic parked in front of the ramp waiting to lock thru, like I've seen all the time at higher water levels, wash out at the end of the ramp is inevitable. It's going to be difficult to obtain a permanent fix to the ramp short of a corp re-do. We will see....hopefully, they will do it right.
Tyme, 111 has it's moments to. It's somewhat shallow and yes you have to watch for the rebar, sometimes it seems a small sandbar develops after high water but the tugs down there use it to get equipment and supplies so they kind of blow it away after awhile. As far as security down there I just leave my doors unlocked and no valuables in my truck, I haven't personally had any problems but have seen enough broken window glass down there to know there has been break-ins that's the reason I don't bother with locking my doors. And yes since the ampitheater is a designated launch area for water rescue they would be more concerned with repairs to the ramp and not the pretty lights on the dyke that do what??? Tyme you need to get down there with me and the boy's on our Fri. night adventures, I'm sure we could have a good time...ChuckRiverrat12, how is that ramp on 111? Grampy, sorry to here about that but I've seen it happen to at least 3 other trailers down there. I'm lucky, I can allmost launch my little boat in 6inches of water and I still try to stay all the way to the right of the ramp as I'm looking down it... I have not used the Middle Creek ramp (Hwy 111) this year, but I stopped to look last weekend. There is one usable lane in approx the center of the ramp...maybe slightly to the upriver side. It can get shallow, but I have always been able to launch my 17' deep-V there. I don't like leaving my truck there either, but so far I haven't had any problems.
As far as the Clarksville ramp goes, when the water level is this low, there is usually not any current problems from the upper dam. It is my ramp of choice right now.
IF there are repairs to the New Albany ramp, I would like to see a small wing dam just above the ramp to help protect it from high current or barge wash. I would think the initial expense would pay off in the long run by saving erosion on the ramp. Just my two cents...

While crossing the Sherman Minton today, I saw them working on the New Albany Ramp.
Looks like they are dumping LOTS of gravel right now........Not too sure what else they plan to do.
