    Question Johnson 200 GT?

Do any of you guys own or know much about these motors? I am looking at a 1992 Hydra Sport in like 2002 condition with this year motor on it as well... I have been trying to find out as much information on this boat and motor as possible but am not finding much. I have been told that the hull design and boat was a favorite by a lot of people and the one I am looking at is a lightning edition with the kevlar hull but I don't know much about these motors... Is there anyone here that might be able to help me out just give me a description on performance and what to expect with these? Anything would help guys Thanks in advance!!!

They are good motors. Expect it to use a lot of fuel if you put your foot in it. Parts are pretty easy to find. I had a 1989 200 and it idled well for an old carb motor. They don't require a lot of special tools to work on.
My advice would be to take it to a local shop and have it checked out. If it is old and tired it doesn't matter what brand it is, you won't be happy with it.

My buddy has a 1989 Johnson 150 GT - always starts, runs good, but it loves the gas and just will not idle. Over the last 10 years he's had several shops try to get it to run smooth, but none have been able to get it to do so. He's finally decided to give up, and is currently looking for a deal on a newer motor. Like Eric said, if it's old and tired, you won't be happy with it.

a lot of the gas may be from trying to push a heavy boat the kevlar hull is light fast easy on gas very nice boats. they need to start making bass boats again as for the motor would be better if it was black. as for the motor do a compression test before buying it.

It's been my experience that the OMC V4 is a gas pig no matter what they push.. I have a V4 120 HP on a Stratos Fish and Ski and it gets about the same MPG as it did on an 1872 Seaark Aluminum.. There is over a 400 lbs difference between the two. My engine is the looper induction so it's a little better on the gas than a crossflow.

the GT 200 is basically the same design with 2 more cylinders unless i'm mistaken.

Ran an 89 150 GT for years, sold it to a guy and I know he was still running it a couple years ago. Ate a lot of gas..which now days would be expensive....they do need to be decarbed a couple times a year or they will run rough.

Good reliable engines. Plenty of parts around if you ever need em'. As said above, they do like gas if you keep your foot in em'. My current one is a 94 200 Venom on a 89' Stratos 201 Pro, it pushes my big heavy boat to 60 mph., plenty fast enough for me. Do a compression and leakdown test if those are good I would say go for it. Black, White, Blue, or Gray the color doesn't matter, there are good and bad engines of every brand!
