Help on Cumberland River at Kendall

LMAO! I would imagine so! I have a 18ft Kevlar canoe, and thought about floating that section. Just never could figure out a way to get picked up down at Helms (I'm to lazy to paddle back up river!). Take it easy.

My kayak isn't heavy like that, but my fear is that sometime during my leisurely float downstream from the dam, they'll start generating and I won't be able to paddle back up! See you in Tennessee

Shoot, paddling upstream from Ray Mann Rd. back to the dam is hard work even with no generation. BTW are the bars at Ray Mann road exposed/wadeable yet?

I don't know too many who have Kevlars around here.

I also have a Kevlar too............Wenonah Boundary Waters that I use in the BWCA and QUETICO.

I've not taken my Kevlar Canoe down there yet, because some of the ripples are REALLY hard to paddle back up, and if I got sideways or somthing in my kevlar, I'd really HATE dinging it up.

As for paddling up...............there are only 2 places that it is tough......AND those are the REALLY long run 1/2 upstream from helms, and the run about 1/2 mile down from the dam........Otherwise, it is not too bad, and I've done it about 1/2 dozen times.......

Yeah, I love my Kevlar. Mine is also a Wenonah and I have used it several times up in the BWCA and Quetico (man, I love that place!). There are so light-weight and strong! Love them! I need to get mine out to the CR sometime and see how it handles. Just don't want to paddle all the way back upstream by myself! My deltoids hurt just thinking about it!

Don't EVEN try by yourself..........we needed BOTH paddlers, REALLY working HARD to paddle back up the run by helms.......

On another note, though, you can simply get out and portage the BIG one near helms......I've done that also.......

I cannot remember the guy's name, but 8-10 years ago there was a local guy who would sit at some of the lower takeout points with his pickup truck. He would charge you $10-$15 to load your canoe and haul you back to your truck. He was usually only there on weekends. We had his home number for awhile but I am sure it is long gone. Some local high school kid was also doing it on weekends. I have not been for a couple years so I do not know if anyone still does that or not.

I am leaving tonight though and fishing the river all weekend. Let you know how I do. We will be in boat though, after stripers. No paddling this weekend for us, although that is probably still my first love.
