"It is SICKENING to see the plans the gubment offers.....TALK about a golden ticket."

ya, think of all the golden tickets feds get:

    a. Some see periodic deployments to foreign countries....most of which are now glad to see you.
    b. Like working 24X7 for a couple months or years when a national crisis or disaster occurs.
    c. Like knowing you are spending all that time working for your country and fellow citizens when you could be looking out for #1, or the family, or fishing.
    d. Like losing a job when the budget gets cut, even though that person maybe an excellent productive performer. Less bucks, less people. And I know that happens "downtown" too. Just don't dillute yourself with the thought that "gubment = security". And oh by the way, since the guy whose job went away spent 30 years managing the maintenance of Abrams tanks......go find a similar job down town.
    e. Like getting to make some really cool career decisions, like do I move from KY where my house is paid off, wife's family resides, and wife's career is located, to Washington DC like my boss wants me to be and where I can buy a house that costs 5 times more than it should, depreciates like a rock, and oh......by the way, I get to wreck the wife's career if I move to save my job. Same scenario, but changed the city to Detroit and see what ya think.

Geo, you're a great guy and all. Tell ya what..........walk in the shoes of one that does serve the country for 30 some years, then tell me if ya feel "over-compensated". Especially if about 75% of the darn medical issues you have are related directly to the stresses faced, hours worked, sleep lost, meals missed, and lovely locations where you "enjoyed" employment.

"golden parachutes".......that's one you took with you when you voluntarily went to some dangerous place well above the ground level, and hope what you are doing never requires you to use it. Its not the fall that hurts, its that sudden stop, and that's what parachutes are supposed to do. A "golden parachute" is one that worked when it was called on.

    Beers getting warm.....gotta go.

OK Hurricane.........maybe it was a little strong...........figure this.....

WHAT makes a government employee.......EVEN after you listed the things above.......which BTW, exist in every other job in the country........ANY BETTER than a private industry employee.

THEN add on top of that the cost of that magical insurance policy.....which cannot be SOLD to anyone, because NO ONE could AFFORD IT.......

I don't know the answers.......but I will tell you this......if the GOVERNMENT creates this BS plan that we're supposed to embrace, the FIRST people to embrace it should be CONGRESS........the next.......FEDERAL EMPLOYEES..........If it's good enough for the country, then it's good enough for the fed.

BTW........my insurance plan is subsidized by my company, and they have to make financial decisions with regards to the cost.......your insurance plan.......well, it's SUBSIDIZED by ME..............

Finally.......lets compare some of your bullet items:

    a. Some see periodic deployments to foreign countries....most of which are now glad to see you.

I've not done that.........BUT the deployed employees, if you count all military and ALL state dept members comes to just a few percent of government employees. I don't have the exact number, but I could come up with it.......so I don't believe that counts.......AND I stated more than once that Military Benefits are a different animal.

    b. Like working 24X7 for a couple months or years when a national crisis or disaster occurs.

I work 24 x 7 ALL the time in the private sector.......and as a salaried employee, I rarely put in less than 60 hrs a week. Yes, I get decent vacation and YES I get decent comp time, but work is WORK, and you pick your poison.

    c. Like knowing you are spending all that time working for your country and fellow citizens when you could be looking out for #1, or the family, or fishing.

I don't quite understand this either.........Military are deployed, and State Dept are also, but not many other government employees outside of that??

In the private sector.....I ALWAYS have to watch my back and continue to hone my skills. Outsourcing to India, Bangledesh, Russia, and a few other countries is ALWAYS an issue......and if I'm not on TOP of my game, I'm out of a job.

I'm not diluting myself with gubment=security.........BUT in most cases, that's the CASE. If any of the existing plans in play get approved by the government, it will move TENS of thousands of jobs from the private sector to the government sector.....

I suspect someone managing maintenance on Abrams tanks could take those managemment skills elsewhere.......

    e. Same scenario, but changed the city to Detroit and see what ya think

I moved 5 times in 4 years following the job..........I've been fortunate that I have not had to move recently...........but I would in a HEARTBEAT....and if my company wanted to move me to Detroit......or Washington DC.......SEE YA....it might be hard to find what I want but I'd CERTAINLY not move somewhere I didn't want.

Working for 20+ years or so in the same industry, and walking away to do something else is SCARY.........I've often thought of it....but I don't think a government employee, and a private sector employee are that far apart............

It's late and I'm going to BED...................and yes.........I'm up at 2:00 AM in the morning, because I'm working to provide SERVICE to my PRIVATE SECTOR EMPLOYER.

Sounds to me like you need to go get a Govt job and quit whining about those that do work there.Personally ,I think if that's what part of the benefit package is,that's what they deserve to get.I've been trying to get a Federal Carpenters job and it's not like they give every Tom,****,and Harry a job. Most are veterans and others who have served.

    So now I'm a whiner...........FANTASTIC.

I don't think so.......I'm worried about the money we spend the status quo, government's ENTITLEMENT MENTALITY........etc, etc............and most government jobs are not held by veterans.........

PROVE the last statement, and I might adjust my thoughts on this a little. AGAIN......vets have EARNED these benefits.

Well stratos......That has nothing to do with what we're talking about.......

And why don't you post the ENTIRE THREAD.....because, I apologized after I did some more research......

Quite frankly, I don't give a RIP what you think.

I only hope that when the dust settles, I can still afford to PAY for the things that I like to enjoy.......

Currently, we work for about 100 days to PAY for government programs....programs that are bloated, broken, don't work, and cost TOO MUCH.......

If we keep this up.........we will be no better than a third world country.......but hey, maybe that is what the LIBS want.....We are certainly headed that way.....

Why do you agree a vet who works for the fed deserves benfits, when the civil servant in you opinion does not? Do you think a Marine Corps Lawyer saw more combat than a civil servant attorney? You are aware a person can be a vet, and never have seen a bullet shot at them in their entire career....right. You just got to serve during that period of conflict.

"WHAT makes a government employee.......EVEN after you listed the things above.......which BTW, exist in every other job in the country........ANY BETTER than a private industry employee."

Didn't say govt employees were better than private sector folks. Both sides of the equation have the same quality people, govt folks come form the same population private sector folks do.

All I'm saying is just what you said.....you pick your own poison. Why doesn't the private sector give their employees the same health care the govt gives to there's? Cost obviously. Healthy folks take less time off, Uncle Sam knows that and takes care of his folks. Some private sector industries do a great job of this also. So like ya said, ya pick your own poison. If you select a company that screws you out of health benefits, feel free to vote with your feet, the same feet that took you there. But just cause someone made a bad choice and went to work where there benefits are not as good, don't try to take away the benefits those of us who have served earned.

Man, enjoy the dialogue, you got the right to your beliefs, you defend your benefits, cause I guarantee I'm gonna defend mine, and those who worked right beside me, past, present, and future.

Oh by the way, when was the last time you saw a Walmart employee sent to Iraq for a year? Have you ever seen a McDonald's employee getting a passport to go to Afghanistan? Got relatives who work for the IRS, carry guns and badges, and have seen less of their home in KY then they have motels in the other 50 states. Tell me kind sir, what KY cop can say the same? That does not make one better than the other, that means each has its own flavor of poison that goes with the good aspects of that profession, and each person gets to chose what he feels is best for his situation. But again, Don't try to take it away from one side, just cause the other side elects to work without it. You and I can't level that playing field, different jobs, different demands, different compensations and different benefits.

Let's agree to one thing......neither you nor I got all the answers, and neither one of us ought be making sweeping generalitites stated as facts. By its fun for sake of argument.
