Re: Biologists Watching Water Temperatures In Lake Cumberland

I've been holding my breath on this ever since the rains came. Luckily, so far, its been a fairly mild summer, but that could change in a hurry.

I think we need to take some stimulus money and put air compressors on the S.S. Hal Rogers chipper barge and pump o2 into the lake at depth.
They really do this at some Dams to increase o2 levels.

Wonldn't increasing the O2 using the barge/pumped air raise the temperature of the water it is oxygenating (hot air + cold water = warmer water)? Which is worse, too much heat or not enough oxygen?

OK, we will now have to ask Obama for a chiller unit to be add'ed to our oversize aquarium pump system.
How many air stones do you think we will need?

Anyone know of an online site which post water temperatures on the Cumberland River.....Wolf Creek Dam and then on down stream?

Maybe STRANGE BAIT in Burkesville might have some insight?

Here are two links to Corps of Engineers sites with real-time and archived stage and temperature data. The locations are Rowena and Burkesville. The Rowena site is just downstream from the Kendall boat ramp (near the dam).

    NO....WAIT....I HAVE A SIMPLIER IDEA........

The KDFWR simply makes a requirement that every fisherman on Lake Cumberland must dump 3 large bags of cubed ice into the lake at the time and spot that he puts his first rods out. Recreational boaters, as they have more room, would be required to dump 6 bags of ice into the lake at the point that they cross out of the very first no wake heading for the main lake. And finally, each marina, in lieu of a portion of their state taxes for the year, must dump 50 bags of ice into the lake each day.

Then, Pro V brings the Limes, and I bring 3000 gallons of Makers Mark.......and presto chango.....Lake Cumberland becomes "Burbon and water on the rocks".

Stripers with a burbon buzz bite and fight for no other reason than to prove that they can! Fishing ought to be great!

No how much Tequilla do you think it would take to make Barren a Margarita?

Love the idea HB. I want to help. You see, as all this ice and whiskey gets dumped in the lake, the elevation will rise, so more will have to be "pulled" by the corps. So, I'll offer to come and "consume" some of the excess liquids, preferrably of the adult type, but I do prefer a nice blended whiskey such as Crown Royal, not to be confused with Royal Crown, the carbonated drink. LMAO

Just get the dates and particulars posted, and I think we can get some help down there to keep the lake from rising toooooooo much. LMAO
