I guess a stringer of empty beer cans won't substitute for a PFD? I mean they float?

Re: Conservation Officers off the Clarksville ramp

I got checked on the River about 3 weeks ago. The CO from Indiana is a good friend of mine, but the other guy never seen us. He started to check us until I started talking to the CO driver. He realized we were in compliant. Chatted for awhile about the quarry to see if it is off limits and if tickets are being written and if 14 is really trolling only. Quarry is in court waiting for papers to be signed, then it will be trespassing. 14 is trolling only. I thought someone put that little sign at 14 as a joke. Wont see me running up 14. Good Luck

Now that's interesting about the quarry. If it does go to an enforced no trespassing rule, that should eliminate a lot of the traffic you see on the river.......where's the new hangout going to be? Taylorsville Lake?

I think I talked to the same guys, and I asked about the electric motor only sign as well - said that they were out there trying to crack down on boats for motoring in it...told them they should come out during the week and get the jet skis that blow through it - the COs said that they usually don't get out during the week.....

Got stopped at the lower dam yesterday evening. They were cordial and the bro-in-law didnt have is throwable, got a warning...lucky if you ask me. Only problem was, we launched late just to fish the evening bite and it took them over half an hour to run the registration for some reason so we missed out on a lot of fishing! lol

I did ask him about the sturgeon regs and he didnt know, heck he didnt even know there was more then one species!

Most Game Wardens are really good folk. Every once and a while you will get ahold of Barney Fife, we use to have one at Cumberland that was a complete horse's Arse. He has been reassingned or fired but everybody is glad he's gone. There are some quality DNR guys over there in Indiana as well. Me and Chuck often talk to one named Josh and he is a fine fella. Poor guy spends most of his time helping people get their boats on the trailers at the Lewis and Clark ramp after the Corp decides to open the gates to Biblical proportions without cause, lol. Ya gotta love the Corp............

LoL that ramp is a pita to trailer a boat. Me in the bro-in-law with our limited experience looked like 2/3s of the three stooges. We ended up having to get out and walk the boat on the trailer which was actually easy enough. It does **** though to be all dry while fishing and then right at the end get wet and have to get in your car....whats the trick?!

Somewhat angle your trailer into the current so it won't move on you before boat is loaded. Make sure you start your approach up current or upstream as to come in half way straight to the trailer. Alot of guys try to do it like everywhere else be it lakes, that doesn't work. Make sure you come in with some speed and with good aim, lol. All that being siad though if they are running 8 foot or above it's a pain in the rear pure and simple and even the best struggle and screw up, it's tough.

I need to get with you and Chuck and figure out the water levels. I just know it by sight from looking out my office window but I dont know what exactly "running 8foot" would be like, if that makes sense.

We need to meet up in LaGrange or C-wood over copious amounts of adult beverages to discuss fishin and our current beloved Commander in Chief...lol

Sounds good but getting the Chuster to hold still is a bear, lol. Jason you can call the automated line or check on MSD website which gives an up to date dam level each day. Basically if they say running 8 foot at the lower or higher you know it's gonna be tough. I'm still learning, Chuck is the man on knowing that stuff, I'm a novice but learning. He is my Sinsae and I am the Grasshopper.

Re: Conservation Officers off the Clarksville ramp

I launched from Clarksville this past Tuesday at noon with 7 feet of dam on the lower. Well don't you know those rascals increased it to 10 feet when we were ready to recover the boat.

As Mhall stated, you have to come at your trailer with some speed and the correct angle. It does take some "testicles" to come at your trailer with more speed then you really want to!!!

I've also found it beneficial to NOT have the trailer too far in the water so the boat can catch the bunks quicker. If you're too deep the current will wash your boat right over the bunks. Once I'm on the bunks and cranked up with the winch,I can back the trailer a little bit to aid in cranking the boat all the way with the winch. 18 ft. Stratos
