this is one of the reasons I sold my runabout years ago, the people at downtown cincy are idiots on the water. Bought a fishing boat instead when i see my first couple of jet skis i get of off the river, not that i have anything against jet skis i just know the idiots are not far behind.

There you go ... don't make government bigger. Don't make new laws. Just enforce the laws that exist.

Since litter is one of my biggest gripes in nature... let's enforce the litter laws too!!

Dave, thanks for pointing out the obvious to us. I remember when I was a lurker on here, I used to wonder who "Mr. Obvious" was... LOL... was that you Dave?

Ironhead: Never be afraid to give anybody a little ramp ettiquete. I have sen this time and time again and tell people they should not block the ramp aznd tie up everyone else. Most are receptive to the comments, but some are just plain morons.

    Re: why ????????

In regards to the ramp courtesy issue (not safety on the lakes) I think the problem all boils down to the clash between two types of people: (1) Those that are in a hurry and want to go-go-go, and (2) those that just don't give a crap about other people. BOTH can improve, in my opinion.

We see it all the time...everywhere...just like your example on the boat ramp.

I'm in line at the gas station trying to pay for my gas and my Mountain Dew and in a hurry to get to wherever I'm going, while the old lady in front of me takes 15 minutes checking lottery tickets and buying new ones.

I'm standing in the fairway at my local golf course trying to get in 9 holes after work before it gets too dark, while waiting on the 4 dudes in front of me on the green lolly-gagging around paying no attention holding up play and not offering for me to play through.

I'm at Wal-Mart on a Saturday afternoon in the Sporting Goods department and I need into the ammo case for that lone box of .45 that I see sitting there, but Julio behind the counter is back in the breakroom taking a siesta and I can't get anyone else to come back there and open the case.

I'm at Subway on lunch hour trying to grab a bite and get back to the office, but the lady in front of me is ordering 10 sandwiches with the works to take back to wherever she's headed...all I want is for Zit-Faced Willie to build my $5 Footlong and get me the hell outta there, but it's going to be awhile.

    Need I go on?

Those of us that are always in go-go-go-now-now-now-my turn-my turn mode need to relax a bit and have more patience...the world aint all about getting out of our way...but the jackasses who don't give a crap about other people need to recognize as well and give way a little more when they can. Give and take, yen and yang, whatever...I guess it is what keeps the world polarized enough to continue spinning.

When you stop and really think hard, does that extra couple of minutes on the ramp or in line at the Speedway really truly hurt you that much?

    Rant over. LOL

an extra couple of mins is not the issue here i could of went before him and i didn't care when he strapped his boat down it when he was complaining about the other guy and and did the same but what got me is when he pulled out the rag and detail spray and cleaned his boat if i was a hurry up and go go go type of person i would of shown my --- off to launch my boat

ironhead, I didn't mean that you were one of the hurry-up and go-go-go people....you let the guy load in front of you, which seems pretty nice and laid back to me.

I just meant that talking about the whole ramp courtesy issue in general, you hear people commenting and complaining a lot about people on ramps strapping down and lolly-gagging and loading gear....and I've been that guy complaining many a times about some bonehead taking way too long on the ramp.

I guess my point was that I'm trying to take a bit slower approach to life these days and not let stuff like that bug me....not be the guy tapping his foot impatiently or showing his butt because somebody is showing theirs. You did what I was suggesting folks ought to do - throw a little kindness out there for some dipstick, even if he doesn't deserve it.

[QUOTE=HiDefFisherman;375644]totally agree HB on the visitor's license, but would it be practical to have visitor's safety certification? It's unconstitutional to apply laws to just certain groups of a population.

    HDF:

Don't think its applying law to a group of a population. Its regulating a privilege. As KY-ites, we don't have the right to fish in public waters, we have to be granted that privilege, according to law, to do so by acquiring a license. By definition a license may be granted by a party ("licensor") to another party ("licensee") as an element of an agreement between those parties. A shorthand definition of a license is "an authorization (by the licensor) to use the licensed material (by the licensee)."
Laws of one state can apply to non-residents. A state's Sovereignty afforded by the Constitution allows them to regulate all who are within their territorial boundaries, so long as such law does not conflict or undermine federal law. Only fisherman have to buy a fishing license, and fisherman are a portion of the population, but are a portion of the population wishing to be granted a specific privilege to conduct a certain act with in the state.

PS: I gotta stop watching all those lawyer movies :-)

    Re: why ????????

Not going to argue HB, I am only going on the information I got in college and from my sister, a lawyer. She's not a particularly good lawyer, so I'll defer to your wisdom!

    LOL

    HDF

PS, the college courses I took were all in management and marketing, so I am merely considering the discrimination laws and the application of any law that affects a disparaite (spelling??-- it's really the first thing to go) *smile* group of any population. If a law enforcement entity is called upon to "enforce" something, even if it is a privelege license, I think it becomes discrimintory on its face. Ooops, sorry, I tried to stop myself...>LOL

I would imagine HB, that you are probably way more right than me on this. I mean it is late, and I am uhmmmm well I would not be on the water in my condition, so I will throw in the towel. Has to be totally legal.

As well, this would generate more money for the state! As a tournament fisherman that is on the water a lot I see many instances where people just simply don't know what to do and lose their common sense.
You just can't legislate common courtesy and common sense! We have enough laws on the books now. This just shows how the values of this country have sunk to the lowest ever. The root of the problem is parents are not teaching their children common courtesy. This has produce a generation of selfish people. They just don't care about their neighbor!
